92 Subaru SVX :D
I bought a black 1982 Mazda RX-7 for my first car in high school (after totalling my parents Tempo). It cost me $1000, then another $1000 to get it road-worthy. It was awesome, but as with most of them, my engine lost compression after having it a year and a half, and was never to start again. I donated it to my high school mechanics shop when I moved out of town.
I had the rx-7, then a Lebaron (big pimpin'), then a Beretta (POS), then an Integra (1st gen, 89), now the SVX. Talk about a huge upgrade from my others!

1966 Ford Galaxie 500 coupe, maroon with black interior, 390 V-8 with a C6 3-speed automatic, power steering, AM radio, sport wheel covers. Paid $300, drove it for a year and sold it for the same.
I learned to drive in my mother's '62 Chevy Impala, 283 V-8. Seems that thing had a 2-speed auto.

1986 Pontiac Fireturd...I mean bird. Bright red. Big bad 2.8L V6 with an auto tranny...what a combo. Actually it was a decent car and it looked real nice. The previous owner had put some real nice American racing rims on it. Drove it for 5,000 miles and got hit driving to work one day. The car was totaled but there were no injuries. The insurance company of the woman who hit me gave me twice what I paid:) After that it was an 85 XT, 95 SVX, 94 SVX, 98 Outback, and 92 SVX.

It would break loose the back tires at 35 mph if I stomped on it :D
If I dumped on it from a dead stop, it wouldn't move...just smoke the tires, and jump up to about 140 mph on the speedo....
What a great car for a beginning driver  .....heheh...it taught me well ;)

My first car was a Raven Black 1969 Boss Mustang I bought used in 1971 using the money I had saved while I was in Vietnam. Unfortunately, I only had the car for about two years because I could not keep gas in it due to the Arab oil embargo of 1973. I sold the car in November of 1973 for a 1974 Celica GT with a 90 hp 2 liter engine . Talk about culture shock! How embarrasing. :o

awwww yeah....were talkin some pimp ish.
top speed: about 95mph... that is, downhill with rocks in the back and with the ghetto overdrive on (ghetto overdrive= throw 'er in neutral at redline on a big freeway hill)
 :D
best thing though: on my 16th birthday i had the appointment for my Drivers license examination set for 9:00 AM.
i got my license, went back to school just in time for lunch, loaded up 10 females into the beast, and shmobbed off to lunch.
I even lost my virginity in that couch on wheels.
then i had an unfortunate incident with a ditch and fence..... :o :(
total cost: $250
then it was an 83' honda prelude... rebuilt the whole engine myself for kicks.... some kick in the arse it turned out to be

that thing was fun... was suprisingly good at jumpin and off roading
famouse words in that car while shmobbin and bottoming out, :

subi-crosser on wifes puter,
my first car I bought AND drove was a 61 Galixie convertable. Gave $100. for it in 1972, It was an X drag car and had the crap kicked out of it mechanically, but the body was flawless! I bought a wrecked 66 ford and transfered all driveline componants to it and put a new white top on it. I haven't seen the car since yesterday, when I walked into my garage. It has 300k on it now and is stripped to bare metal and primed.
My 35 class reunion is in 2 years and I hope to have the resto-work completed by then!

My mom told me when I was little that she bought her 86 Cutlass Supreme for me on my 3rd birthday and intended to give it to me, but by the time I turned 12 it was in pretty crappy condition (thanks, Alaska...).
We lived in Florida for the 8 years prior and the car was always in excellent condition, but as soon as we moved here things started breaking.
So when I turned 14 (1996) she got me a 92 Mitsubishi Precis.
P.O.S., but immaculate considering it was only 4 years old. Not that I knew any better.
I knew nothing about cars until summer of 2000 I bought an 88 XT6 off my then step-dad, at which point I became a Subaru fan(atic).
The Precis was borrowed by someone and t-boned by a van summer '98.
First motorcycle came to my from my step dad late '98.
81 Honda CM400 Hondamatic 2spd Custom.
Hi everyone, Well someone had to have a first car that will really set you back. How about a 1949 Ford coupe. Had a flat head V-8 with a three speed on the column plus overdrive. A Laycock de Normanville overdrive. They don't have catchy names like that anymore. My dad had it first. Then my mom. And then me. When I got done with it we sold it to a kid down the street. Take care, BOBB

1986 Subaru GL wagon. I still drive it from time to time. The car was pretty close to perfect when I got it, but that quickly changed once I realized how competent it was off road. After that an 85 Honda CRX fell into my lap and I've put a lot of miles on it because of the fantastic mileage and because it just won't die no matter how badly I beat on it. (Believe me, cars have nightmares about things I've done to it.) Next came the SVX and quite a handful of other mid 80's Subarus. I'm still searching for an RX coupe with the rally package, an XT6 5-speed (or a motor to go in the one I've got), and maybe a Brat if it's cheap or in great shape.

it could only get better from there.....Actually, those things are ridiculously fast (http://www.leenetonline.com/~sigod/shelby/mirrors/page5/sc95109.htm) with a turbo motor. I know it's easy to laugh at them, but if it's got a turbo, watch out. The GLH (literally, Goes Like Hell) version produced 146 ponies from the factory and only weighs 2300 pounds, so the power-to-weight ratio is almost exactly the same as the SVX. The GLH-S version of the Omni (http://www.thedodgegarage.com/hall/hall_mark_omni_.jpg) (2) (http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/359000-359999/359097_149_full.jpg) produces 175 HP which Car & Driver claims will get you down the quarter mile in 14.7 seconds, though many people do much better. The styling is almost kinda sorta slightly coming back into a pseudo retro style, but the interior build quality does stink. The motors however are tough and super easy to build up. They’ll pull quarter miles in twelve seconds by doing nothing more than closing the waste gate. The 2.5 caravan (http://www.turbovan.net/van.html) motor, (which comes purposely and significantly detuned from the factory, but can be unleashed by plugging a vacuum hose,) bolts right in and with 20+ pounds of boost will kill WRXs. I stopped laughing once I was spanked by a $200 Plymouth with half a day's tweaking an no money invested.

Ye good ole 1986 Saab 900 non turbo automatic!
Talk about a dog. But I loved that car, and it hooked me on weird cars from then on :)
Then from there it went on to:
1968 Saab 96 (Rotting in the driveway - but works!)
1984 Saab 900 8v Turbo (RIP)
1989 Subaru DL (She still runs today with 200k+)
1989 Saab 900 Turbo Conv (Just needs a new tranny :P )
1999 Subaru Legacy Outback 30th Annv. (Wife's Daily Driver - 160k+)
1993 Subaru SVX 25th Annv. (Needs engine work :( )
and then what I drive today...
1989 Ford F150 Color: Rust (But a frosty cold A/C!)
Speaking of that Fiat 128, my dad used to have a '59 1100 Millicento. Beat anything to 40mph, then you were toasted... :) It did get 42 mpg though being driven all out. Top speed was something like 90mph! I wish that thing was still kickin' today...

First car was a '69 Camaro. Had a 307ci with a Powerglide tranny. I got it when I was 15. Rebuilt the engine and had it ready to drive by my 16th birthday. Ran off a dirt road about 4 days after I was on my own (no permit anymore). Had to replace the passenger front fender and A-frame. passenger door was crushed in too, but wasnt an issue. By my senor year I managed to get it restored.
The rest of the past:
82 F150 4X4 (351 set-up for dirt drag)
89 Toyota 4X4
91 Eclipes GS-T
96 Doge Status ES (V-6)
97 Mustang (V-6, 5-Speed)
88 Chevy Blazer 4X4
82 Crown Vic (got it in 2002 w/ 15K miles, sounds great, but every seal in the thing leaked from dry-rout)
92 Stealth (free Got it after having the 94SVX for awhile. I put $800 in the engine to get it running and sold it for $1000 to by the 92 SVX
Current List:
94 SVX L: Bought it May 2003 with 20K for $8000
92 SVX LS-L : paid $900 w/ bad tranny.
75 Datsun 280Z: paid $300 needs steering linkages and floor boards
72 Datsun 240Z: Needs floorboards (did Datsuns actually come with floorboards?)
I'm thinking about getting a 96 Legacy GT. I've never had a NEW car. I want a GT, but I dont want the new front end. I'm afraid 2007s will have the new grill.

Kinda like me. At one, I used to turn my wagon upside down and drive it. At 2, I got a powerwheels. It wasn't fast enough, so my dad put a chainsaw motor on it. It still wasn't fast enough so we put an 8hp briggs on it with minibike tires for traction (it would still smoke them.) Leared to drive a cart before I knew how to ride a bike. At 3 I got my first go-kart and my dad re-drilled the pedals for my short legs. That was fun, but it was only three hp. By 5 I was driving around an old race kart with slicks on the grass. Most fun thing to drive ever. Nothing comes close to drifting a kart. At 6 I started riding the minibike, at 7 I fixed up the moped and then went to a 125cc 1975 Rockford Taka trailbike. It moved, but was falling apart. I learned to deal with the weight when riding with my friends and eventually got a 1988 Kawasaki KX80 bigwheel. Sold that after I moved and got a 1994 Ford Explorer. Drove around in mommy and daddy's car for a while then traded the explorer for $700 and gas to a friend who needed a truck when I bought the SVX.

I traded my boat with a guy in exchange for overhauling (mechanics and body/paint) my mother's old benz. I got the Primier and a a little insurance out of it.
I loved that car, it was fast like hell and I would regularly haul 6 frinds in it. Not sure what the staties did to it, but the spare I bought didn't stand a chance against it. I wish I knew more about cars when I owned it. After that I got into I6 Benz sedans... and then everything.

1987 Volvo 740 turbo. Was in great condition when I bought it aside from fixing a frame rail because of hidden rust. Was RWD and a lot of fun once I turned the boost pressure up to 13lbs. Had a Garrett T3 turbo and I put a lot of time and effort into it. Pretty reliable overall but left me stranded twice because of electrical problems. Last couple of days I owned it the wiring for the windshield wipers started smoking under the dashboard so I had to remove the fuse. She suffered from bad piston slap to the point where people thought it was a diesel motor, and I guarantee the rods were S shaped after over boosting a few times.
This is a couple of pictures I took a week or so before parting her out.

The black wagon is sick dude.
As for my first...I had an '89 caddy fleetwood brougham. maaco peeling of primerish grey with blood red leather interior. That thing was freakin awesome. You could fit like, 6 bodies in the trunk (13 or so if you put them through a wood chipper first) Totally gangster (Not "gangsta" like theese crazey kids seem to think is cool) Okay, so the only thing that DID work was the check engine light, but the 10 miles or less a day it WOULD travel was done in style:tongue:

1972 Datsun 240Z. Picked it up for $1,200 put about another $1,000 into it and boy was she nice. I have pics around somewhere. I loved that car. Besides the rust, I never really had a problem with it. Ended up selling it after I got married to buy a K Car. Yikes.... I was looking to buy another but realized that they just weren't for me any longer. So I bought the SVX and never looked back....

My first car was a 1973 Pontiac Ventura with a 350 in it. That was back when you could buy American V8 muscle for under $1000. My first sports car came when I was 18, I picked up a 1976 MG Midget. It was tons of fun when I bought it in June but I was glad that I hadn't sold the Ventura when the cold weather came.

I got $4700 from the insurance company..:D

1990 Toyota Celica GT coupe
2.2Litre engine, 5-speed. I added a homemade cold air intake, Pacesetter cat-back exhaust, advanced timing, 1 inch drop Eibach springs, M3 fender vents (not ricey Z3 fenders), updated 92-93 taillights, 3-piece spoiler, clear corners, 17" Sport Edition rims, and called it a day. she ran a 16.394 @ 85mph at the dragstrip and was a fun daily driver car during the formative years of my youth, got my first clinton in the backseat of that car :)
The aftermarket part situation for the 5th gen (90-93) celica is about the same as the SVX, it wasnt really a performance car, but it was light and had good pickup. I kinda miss her :(

Unlike some other motor companies, such as Ford (founded by Henry) or Suzuki (founded by Michio), Subaru is not named after its founder. "Subaru" is the Japanese word for "Seven Sisters", a common name for the most prominent stars in Pleiades, an open cluster of about 500 young stars (only about 100 million years old), barely visible in our northern sky. At least six of the 500 or so stars are visible to the naked eye, while under moderate conditions the number increases to 9, and under clear dark skies, jumps to more than a dozen. To see the rest, good quality binoculars or a telescope is required; but the cluster is still difficult to locate as it is spread over only 2 degrees - about four times the diameter of the moon.
The name "Pleiades" itself may have been derived from the Greek word for "to sail" or the word "pleios" meaning "full" or "many".
Another theory is that the cluster is named after the mythological mother, Pleione, which is also the name of one of the brighter stars. According to Greek mythology, the main, visible stars are named for the seven daughters of "father" Atlas and "mother" Pleione: Alcyone, Asterope (a double star), Electra, Maia. .Merope, Taygeta and Celaeno.
Although somewhat similar to the constellation Crusis, comprising Gacrux, Alpha 1 Crusis, Beta Crusis and a few other unnamed stars, which we know (in Australia) to be the Southern Cross, the Subaru badge represents a totally different group of stars.
But why does the Subaru badge only have six stars?
Ken Takeuchi from Japan has provided this insight, including an alternative background for the star emblem:
To say first, SUBARU may stand for "seven sisters" may be true but the Pleiades stars are also called "Mutsura-Boshi", which means "six gathered stars". The star SUBARU even appears in the lyrics written more than 1000 years ago. The word has some romantic feelings to we Japanese.
Fuji Heavy industries, the maker of SUBARU cars, was known as Nakajima Aircraft before WW II, which made many fighters and bombers. Even the famous Mitsubishi Zero fighter had a Nakajima 14 cylinder engine. After the war, the company was forced to spread into 15 companies to cut the strength of the huge weapon industry. But in the early 1950s, five of the companies gathered into one again to restart as a transportation company. That's FUJI and that's why there are five little stars and one big star.

First cars...memories. 1970 Datsun 240Z, 1968 MG, 1975 Renault Gordini, then I moved to Toronto and didn't think I needed a car. Lived right downtown, so rented or borrowed one when I needed.
In 1985, for I don't know what reason, bought a Hyundai Pony, new off the lot, for $5000 or something. Got to give it some credit, it took me, my husband, a black lab, budgie and African Grey parrot, plus most of our stuff, to Nova Scotia when we moved. Pretty cramped, what with the cages and all (the parrot attacked the budgie; the dog didn't know which way to lie down...) but it lasted until 1994 when it died. Sold it for $400 during a blizzard to some Russian sailors who were in town. They wanted to pay $200 plus a case of Russian vodka, but since they probably made the vodka on board their ship...(they bought up all these cars, then put them in working order on the trip back home, where they would sell them).
Jeep Grand Wagoneer, some Volvos, a BMW and here I am.

He found it on ebay and my dad picked it up for him 6 hours away. Needless to say, I liked it more than him, after two years, he busted the radiator by skidding off the highway into a ditch and hit a curb going 120 IN TOWN:eek::eek:, so the front ball joint was going out. I bought it from him, fixed her up and so the story goes....................

1984 nissan pickup. 2 wheel drive, not sure what it had in it but i swear that thing had a 350z motor in it.... at least thats what it said on the motor haha. pos for sure, parents paid $1 from my grandparents haha. engine blew cuz i never changed the oil. i didnt even know how to jump start a car then... ive come a long way since those days haha.
1994 saturn sc1-first car i bought. 4-cyl 5speed. $1k, parents paid $35 tax. good little car, wish i could have kept it actually for cheap gas. couldnt afford 2 cars on the insurance though. i was good to that car, never revved it above 3500 rpms, the guy that bought it from me was redlining it during the test drive and i was cringing. it held up really well though
1992 svx-second car i bought. $2750. most fun car ive owned, and coolest looking.

My first car was a 69 Cutlass S convertible. Was pale yellow with a black top and black interior. Had a 350 and a turbo 350 trans. I installed American Racing aluminum slots, 15x7 up front with G60 tires and massive 15x10 in the back with a set of M50's. GAWD was it ever mean looking!! How I wish I had never sold it! :(

My very first car was a 1978 Volvo 240 wagon. Parents got it for $400 and drove it till it died 5 years later. Safest car on the road(got rebates on my insurance at 17:eek:) if they only knew what I did with that car. Friends always asked what the oars were for:D yup it floated pretty good. Only car to survive a bad hailstorm that virtually destroyed every car around it.

That was the NAPS-Z (The NAPS meaning Nissan Anti Pollution System) engine, had nothing to do with the Z car, I don't know why they put the Z on the valve cover. Came in three sizes, 2.0, 2.2, and 2.4L... Two were known for cracking blocks, and the other was known for cracking the head, but I can't remember which is which. Best thing is to either get the motor mounts out of an 80, and put a 75 L20B in (Most HP, 75 L20B = 112 HP, 80 L20B = 98) or go KA24....

sweet, i have always wondered what was up with that motor! i just thought it was funny that it said 350z on it haha, although it could possibly have been something else because my grandparents did put a new motor in it, although it still probably was stock. they got the car for $50 cuz it needed a motor. i wonder what size mine was.... i know it was weak and it sucked gas like no other. the car did look like a cow too, it was all rusted and looked pretty bad. i still have it if anyone wants it... haha its in kansas though at our other house. if anyone is around topeka feel free to get it if you want lol.

My first car, 92 Claret SVX. Bought it off the side of the road as a project. Ended up being a lot more of a project than I expected, lol. I bought the car when I was 14, yeah 14, lol. When I got the car, the manifold was in the trunk, along with a few other engine pieces... So I put it all back together, and drove her around for a few months. Granted, I was 14. But living in the small town I did, and I lived across the street from the police station, they didnt mind. I didnt ever go far, just joy rides around town and what not. Ah good memories with that car, Ill never forget it. That one now resides in the biggest SVX collection in the world
My second car, 06 Ford Focus hatchback. It was a good car, I miss having a 5 speed. That one is now my moms car.
My third car, 92 Teal SVX. Back in the game!
And my current car, 95 Polo SVX.... Im crazy

I guess I'm older than a lot of you guys. My first car, in 1950, was a 1935 Chrysler Airstream 6 sedan. Smooth and comfortable, but had no main bearings left in the engine. Paid $165 for it. Then, senior year in high school, traded it in for a 1936 DeSoto (remember those?) Airflow. This was essentially a 6-cylinder version of the Chrysler Airflow, which were all eights. Had a huge knob on the dashboard that locked out the mechanical Borg-Warner overdrive, knob was labeled "Gas Saver."
Then my parents gave me the car we had had in the family since new, the 1940 Plymouth coupe we had driven cross country from Connecticut in. It was finally towed to a wrecking yard in 1958, after being my dad's beater for years.
In 1952, bitten by the import car bug but not being able to afford an import, I bought (for $250) a 1947 Crosley convertible. OHC motor, crash gearbox, mechanical brakes, 23 horsepower, but 30+ miles per gallon. Just the thing for an impoverished student. It was followed by a 1950 Crosley Hotshot roadster, and then, nirvana, my first (new) Volkswagen in the fall of 1955. That was followed by another beetle, three Karmann Ghias, a Porsche 912, a boring but reliable Toyota Celica, a series of Mercedes diesels, then a M-B 280SE 4.5, an Alfa Romeo spider, and finally the 1991 Alfa Romeo 164 I have had for the past 12 years.
A Geo Metro convertible for a commuter car came right after the Alfa, because I didn't want to commute in (and use up) the Alfa. The commute was 100 miles per day round trip, in heavy traffic. When the Geo died of old age (180K miles) it was replaced with a Mercury (Ford of Australia) Capri convertible, which I still have. The Pearl 1992 SVX came in to my life 14 months ago and joined the Alfa and Mercury in my stable. Family asks why I need three cars, my answer is "you don't sell cars if you buy ones that are really great to drive." Luckily, my So Cal. climate means the cars have no cancer and will probably be with me until I can no longer drive them.
Sorry this has got so long.

Very first car was an 88 Dodge Aries K in 96. I paid $150, found 2oz of pot and $400 cash stuffed in the back seat (between the seat and the back-rest)..... the guy dropped it off for me as I didn't quite have my license.... there was a knock in the engine. The first time I drove it was to my bud's shop where he told me the crank was bent and it would last between 3 minutes and 2 years.... it died and went to the junk yard before it could get me home.... but I was happy:):):) Later on I used my third paycheck the $400, and the $175 I got for the other stuff.... to buy an 89 dodge daytona turbo that I ended up painting 6 different times and putting in about $6500 worth of stereo into before my GF at the time drove it into a guardrail........ After that was a 94 dodge shadow that I got specifically because it was white (The White Shadow.... duh?) and then came all new stories.....

When I was 12, I bought my 1972 Cutlass 442 that I should never have bought, and dumped close to 10,000 into it to by the time I was 17, plus ALOT of time with my dad. (I am 20 now)I have since bought a 1992 volvo 940 which I used during the winter of my senior year, and then bought a 1997 Outback freshmen year of college. Now I have my 1992 SVX, the cutlass, and I am currently looking at a 300zx which needs some work...

Not as old as some of you guys. First was 1988 Daihatsu Charade 1.0 3cyl, got for $250 and put close to 50k on it then tranny blew and had no money to fix. then was a 1981 corolla hatchback with plans for a drift car but I had it topped out at (70mph) and blew the engine, again no money to fix. next 2001 sunfire that I rolled. 1995 Miata with fiberglass bmw z3 replica body kit and '74 Bradley Kit car, lost both of those due to some domestic legal issues. There was a 1985 Honda Magna V65 too that I traded for the Ranger. So now it's the Ranger, Jaguar, and the two Svxi: Claret '92 Lsl and Emerald pearl '94 Lsi.

1980 Chevy Monte Carlo V-8 267CI rated at only 120HP  Have you ever seen a V8 make less HP than that. It was very reliable though, I must say. Never had an issue in 100k miles. It was a dark green color with tan vinyl seats. Had it repainted black when the paint dulled on hood & trunk. Last chevy I ever owned. Ive been a suby owner since 1991, cant see myself owning another chevy, other than maybe a corvette or 69 camaro.

What else would you expect from GM after the emission standards started to get even more strict. I had a couple olds and a buick that had the olds 307V8-about 130-140 hp stock but loads of torque. People think the gearing in the SVX is low, that car had a final drive ratio of 2.32 to 1. 115 mph and still sittin around 2800 rpm.

I can see you are a bunch of kids, ( only kidding ) My first was a 1949 Plymouth 2 door club coupe and I up graded to a 1950 Dodge the following year. Graduated Hi school with a 1956 Chevy convertible ( wish I had that now ) had a 3 on the floor V8 4 barrel and duel exhaust even at todays market worth $40,000 . Sold it for a few bucks and got a 1966 Dodge DART GT 273 4 barrel 235 hp 4 speed. I still love that car.

'73 Scout II my dad had built from the ground up. It was a tank sitting on 33" tires, basically an offroad buggy, so I sold it after 4 months so I'd have something I could commute to school in. I soon bought my first Subaru, and haven't looked back since. I still owe my dad a built Scout though. Someday...
