View Full Version : Wheels that fit.....

Greetings.
Once again.... sorry if this is an already existing post... did a search, couldn't find anything.
I REALLY like the look of the 17x8 STI BBS' wheels on an SVX, but they are incredibly pricey.
Aftermarket wheels look ricey, unless you spend a fortune on them as well.
Is there a thread, or a list, or something that lists several different (non Subaru OEM) wheels that fit an SVX and look really good? I've heard there are some Nissan wheels out there... perhaps Mazda? Something.
I see slightly used wheel/tire sets on eBay all the time, but it's difficult to be sure if they will fit an SVX because often the owner doesn't know what the offset is.
Thanks in advance!!!

Check out Infiniti FX wheels, Nissan Murano, RX8, RX7, 300ZX, Lexus SC/GS Wheels.
I have RX8 wheels on my Claret.

I have RX8 wheels on mine, and I personally think that they are the wheels the SVX should have come with. They fit the looks of the car so well.

Mike - I gotta say again I LOVE your Pearlie!
Are those just some really good condition standard RX8 wheels, or did you do something to them? They just look "shinier" than any I've seen on RX8's in real life. Maybe it's just that you cared enough to wash them up real good and it was picture day.
Also, I'm assuming the RX8 wheels have a really compatible offset for the SVX? I think your car's even lowered, no problems with these at all?
I love my 18's, but with no knowledge of the offset they have I fear they may not work if I ever did a suspension upgrade.

Here are the specs on the wheels:
50mm offset
18" x 8" Alloy
2004-2007 Mazda RX8
Bolt Pattern 5x114.3
Lug centric mounting
I used proper hub rings. I used google to come up with the measurements on those. I may have the measurements in my SVX file. I'll look tonight. Centercaps from a 2000-2004 outback are plug-and-play. My car is lowered (a lot) and there are no clearance issues at all. Mine are the standard Mazda finish, as far as I know. I haven't done anything to them except wash and wax them. :)

Those RX8 wheels look AMAZING.
I know if I go with 18s, the car will look funny unless I lower it.... which I don't want to do.
I am going to take a look at some of the other suggestions though... definitely. Thanks!!

Question: What size tires?
I have 225/40/18 Continental ContiSportContact 2 tires. Not all tires of that size are created equal, though. I noticed that Mike621 has installed Toyo tires of the same size on his RX8 wheels, and they have a 'stretched' look to them as if they're too narrow for the wheels. The Continentals on the other hand, look perfect.
Some people do like the stretched look, though.

Also, late model Mustang wheels are a bolt on. (05-up) Even the "Bullit" wheels. I'm seriously considering these. They're 16" so they'd be a direct swap.

Thanks Mike! Best and clearest answer I've gotten on a subject here in a long time. Everything I needed to know. I think I'll start hunting a set of RX8 wheels down.....
Let me know if you find the specs for the proper hub rings as well.

Green 95 SVX, so are your wheels hub centric? or lug centric?
You stated that they were lug centric, but then said you used hub rings? Some people have told me that you can snap off you lugs if you don't use centering rings. I have always had aftermarket wheels which are never hub centric and I have never had a problem with them.
What do you think?
Thanks:)

I read that these wheels are lugcentric, but just to be sure I used hub rings anyway. Better safe than sorry.

STi BBS's ('07 and older) are not pricey at all.. You can generally find them around here for under 1k with tires...

Green1995SVX,
Are the Mazda wheels directional? They kind of look that way because of the angle of the spokes.

Green1995SVX,
Mike, I found this post regarding the RX8 Wheels, however it does not list the specs for the Hum rings. Do you remember what they were? I have found the wheels after market and want to put them on my 92.
Also you mentioned you lowered the car a lot.. How much is a lot?

I am not sure if the LGT is 5x100 or 5x114.3 but their wheels would look good on a SVX!

05+ STi, Tribeca, and SVX are 5x114.3. All other Subies are 5x100, unless they're really old, in which case they're 4x something.

OK. The SVX's Centerbore is 56.1mm. The RX-8's centerbore is 67.1.
These are the proper hub rings for installing RX-8 wheels on an SVX:

So would 5x100's fit on a stock svx right or would I have to do mods at all? I know its a total newb question but I was wondering and had no idea
Gamesy

our bolt pattern is 5x114.3 which is the same as an 05+ STi, the 5x100 wont be able to fit
BoxerFanatic
01-26-2010, 10:32 AM
Sell the 5x100s to someone with a Legacy or WRX, or something... all the other subarus fit 5x100.
05+ STI, Tribeca, and SVX have 5x114.3mm (same as 5x4.5 inches), which is actually a much more common pattern.
Some wheels are dual-drilled for both patterns, but I tend not to like the looks, and I tend to suspect the hub pad strength of the wheel with that many closely drilled holes... but they sell 'em... so maybe they are just fine, structurally.

 There's over a half inch of difference between the spacing of the studs. I suppose you could modify the wheels to fit...or go to WRX hubs...or weld the wheels on...All of which would cost significantly more than a new set of wheels.
In short, no. You cannot make 5x100 wheels fit on an SVX.
Bolt pattern: the 5 means 5 lugs. The 100 is the spacing between the studs in mm. You measure between every second stud, not to the one directly beside it, like this:
http://www.hubcapmike.com/images/bolt-pattern.gif
icingdeath88
01-26-2010, 10:03 PM
So it's not the diameter of the circle that the bolts make, it's from bolt 1 to bolt 3? I never knew that.
So the correct answer would be that it would be "prohibitively expensive" (and/or time consuming) to put 5x100 rims on an svx.
BoxerFanatic
01-26-2010, 10:54 PM
Exactly which wheels are so amazing that only come in 5x100, that one would convert an SVX to that, for those wheels?
I badly wish my Legacy had SVX/STI's 5x114.3 wheel fitment, so that aftermarket wheels were not so hard to come by. Subaru-fitment-specific models of Rota wheels, and a very select group of others are about the only ones that fit those cars. Even VW/Audi 5x100 wheels are too low an offset to fit under Subaru fenders.
With the plethora of wheels available in 5x114.3, with a high offset, including OE takeoffs from many other cars like mazdas, nissans, and even late model mustangs... I want to know what 5x100 wheels are so great that would make one contemplate the hub change to a rarer pattern.

My car is lowered with these springs:

I like the ride height, but the finish on them is not durable. You'll want to have them powdercoated before you install them.

I just put a set of RX-8 Rims on my LSi, definately makes the car look a lot cleaner, makes the car sit about an inch higher, and the low profile makes a difference in ride quality.
