So I've been looking for a reasonably-priced WRX 5 speed and I found this on craigslist: http://denver.craigslist.org/ptd/3373484810.html

I've looked at both the 5 speed how-to's but it did not answer the following questions about newer trannys:

Is the bolt pattern different from older transmissions?
Do I need to modify/swap the driveshaft for a longer one like other WRX trannys?
Will I need 04+ WRX axles or can I use the stock SVX axles?
Is installation generally the same as any 02-05 WRX tranny swap?
I assume the rear diff just swaps in, no modification required?

For ~$1000 I figure it's a steal, but I want to make sure that it'll work with the SVX. :)

Nope. It will bolt to the EG33 just fine.

Yes.

In the front the SVX axles will work if you put in the axle stubs, the part numbers of which are posted in another thread, I think by dragoontwo. The rear axles - see the rear diff below.
Is installation generally the same as any 02-05 WRX tranny swap?
Pretty much.

The 06 WRX diff has 3.7 diffs, not 3.9 front/3.54 rear like the 02-05 WRX. So you can't use the SVX rear diff. Also the SVX rear diff is an LSD, while most likely the WRX one isn't (optional feature that few of them actually have, AFAIK). Probably the best thing to do is swap the SVX LSD into the WRX housing, to get the 3.7 ratio, the LSD, and be able to use the SVX axles.

For ~$1000 I figure it's a steal, but I want to make sure that it'll work with the SVX. :)

Answers in red. There is more needed to do to make it work, such as making a set of pedals that will last reliably, and extending the shifter linkages. There are several threads that altogether cover all of it - have a look through those and then whatever other questions you're left with, ask away.

Yeah, I've read through a lot of the other threads. I just couldn't find any threads about swapping in newer trannys or the axle shafts.
Also, google results say that the 06-07 WRX diffs do indeed have LSD standard, so I guess I would have to use the axle stubs for the rear as well.

No. Whatever the difference between the rear axles, it's not that simple. Have a look at the last couple pages of this thread: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=60414

Found this in that thread:

The WRX uses matching shafts left and right, so no tapered extra spline section. If the outer end of the 06 WRX shafts is too small to fit the hub of the SVX your only options will be to use the SVX shafts and the SVX VLSD carrier OR get the custom made aftermarket shafts for the R160 diff with the large hub brembo swap for the WRX guys that want to put on brembos by swapping outer knuckles but don't go to R180 diffs.

I see now. I guess it would be easier to just swap the SVX LSD into the new diff.

Thanks for answering my questions. I'm not too familiar with drivetrain stuff. :(

No problem man, I've been there. Just wait until you have to figure out how to make the pedals work :P

You can re-use the stub shafts from the SVX transmission, you just need to get the proper seals to do so. There's a master transmission swap thread that has them listed.
