The "horns" emblem is a JDM (Japan Domestic Market) part. The only way a North American car has one is if the owner bought one and put it on, or the car is a JDM car imported straight from Japan. The standard North American hood badge is the 6-start Subaru emblem.
Example: I bought the JDM hod badge a couple months ago an installed it on my car. Before that I had the standard Subaru badge. There's no such thing as a "true" Alcyone. The SVX, no matter where it's from, is an Alcyone. The Japanese model has a couple more gizmos, but that's it. |

If it were a "true" Alcyone,(true just meaning a JDM one) the steering wheel would be on the right side of the car....so your car is NOT a JDM Alcyone, it is a USDM Subaru SVX with a Alcyone tail light panel.....does that explain it?;) |
So only a "true" one would have the "horn" emblem on the hood?
|
All SVX's are "true Alcyone's". In Japan, they called the car Alcyone SVX, in the US just SVX. All were made by Subaru. In US, the taillight said Subaru and it had the star hood emblem. In Japan, taillight said Alcyone and it had the horn hood emblem. The only major difference was : are you sitting in the right hand seat or left hand seat to drive? Some owners change their US taillight and hood emblem to the one that says Alcyone. :)

plenty of cars here have the horns and the rear panel. but if you aren't getting into the car from the right hand side to drive it, then you are driving an all USDM SVX
|
Thanks for straightening that out for me. I must sound like a REAL SVX Rookie! Do you remember who has the hood emblems for sale?

Thanks Earl. By the way, whats the deal with that "Air Purifier"? Was that an option? Does it work good? Can I buy one and install it? Is it worth it? or is it just an expensive looking object?

While we're on this topic, I've got a question that's been burning a hole in my skull lately about Alcyone.
How is it pronounced? Everytime I meet someone who "knows" how to pronounce it, they pronounce it differently than the last person to "know" how to pronounce it... if that makes sense.:o My guess: AL-SEE-OWN. Probably laughable, I know. But I'm looking to get it on a license plate, and if the correct spelling is taken already in my state, I want to know how it's pronounced so I know which letters I can drop. |
I did a search (works great) of this for the many past threads on this. This thread is the best one. It also has a wave sound bite on how it sounds. Read and find out all about it. :) :)

I very much doubt you'll find one for sale, and it would probably be expensive. Incidentally, Although these are in the JDM Options catalogue, I think they were dealer fitted, rather than factory fitted because there are no connections for it in the wiring loom. The wiring is tacked-in aftermarket style. If air quality is a problem for you, I've seen similar devices on a smaller scale that you can plug into the cigarette lighter socket. |
