New quick release steering wheel!
Hey everyone!
First legit post so I sure hope the photos link A few weekends ago I installed an aftermarket steering wheel and quick release hub. Thought I might as well share what I found out. TLDR Green and red wire is the power to cruise control and the horn, they are spliced together on the factory steering wheel. Blue Wire yellow tape: pretty sure this a grounding wire. Green (or maybe it's grey?) wire: I put a resistor between this one and the orange wire. I think its a live wire for the airbag. Orange wire: I put a resistor between this one and the green (or maybe its grey?) wire. I think its a live wire for the airbag. Black and white wire: Connected this with a resistor to the tan wire, it's one of the wires for cruise control. Orange wire: Connected this with a resistor to the Black and white wire, it's one of the wires for cruise control. For what fits: Per this post http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/arch...p/t-56100.html I can say that 08-14 Impreza hubs/steering wheels will fit. In fact you can keep your clockspring as well since the (the hub I purchased) has the holes for the clockspring connector in the right spot. See photo. http://www.flickr.com/photos/1953070...posted-public/ Then you can line it up and slap it on! https://www.flickr.com/photos/195307...posted-public/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/195307...posted-public/ As far as the wiring goes, on the airbair portion (yellow tape and connector) the blue wire is the ground (I think) so I put a resistor between the green and orange wires and capped off the blue. https://www.flickr.com/photos/195307...posted-public/ The horn was a bit weird. The live wire for the Horn is spliced from the live cruise control wire (Green and red) So I connected that wire (green and red) to the adapter wire that was supplied. I then put a resistor through the remaining two wires (Black and tanish orange wire). https://www.flickr.com/photos/195307...posted-public/ After I I had connected the resistors and capped off that spare ground wire I connected the green and red wire (that I had previously connected to the adapter that was supplied) to the quick release steering wheel and connected the ground to a metal bracket that was supplied (but you can ground it anywhere you see fit where it wont get too twisted) I plan on going back and properly soldering and everything if my landlord ever runs electricity to my garage. Right now everything is crimped and it looks like a rats nest I also plan on reinstalling cruise control once I figure out a decent mounting place. For anyone wondering I installed the NRG 08-14 impreza short hub (SRK-105H) the NRG heart shaped quick release and the deep dish steering wheel. https://www.flickr.com/photos/195307...posted-public/ Anyway I hope this helps someone out there! |

The hub adapter they came with had no directions and it wasn't listed anywhere in the packaging. Though near the base of the resistor it did list some numbers. Numbers listed reading from left to right: 125C 60ov (2.5/1.5) So far so good on the airbag light being off! |

Very unscientific.
Acky... Those numbers u posted seem to be for capacitors. Resistors usually don't have any writing on them. They have colored bands on them. Show a pic of what you are calling a resistor please. B |

I am pulling the engine and transmission in the next few weeks so I will take a picture of the ones I have when I do that (my garage has an ungoldly amount of brown recluses in it at the moment) |

The colored bands on the resistor are as follows: Brown, White, Gold, Gold.
Does that resistor have the correct resistance? or would a different resistor be better suited for the application? Sorry for resurrecting this thread. My engine started smoking so all my time on this car went to finding engine parts. |

Hi,
Brown, White, Gold, Gold. means 1.9ohm +/- 5% 19 * 0.1 https://www.akaneohm.com/column/marking/ It seems that a resistor of 2.2ohm 1W can be used for almost Japanese cars as a airbag canceler. The 1.9ohm is not that different from 2.2ohm. As for the resistance values, I've checked for some recent SUBARU cars on the internet, but I have not found for the SVX. To make the airbag controller think the inflator is still present, the resistor pretends to be it. You'll need to know the resistance of the original steering wheel inflator to know the exact value, but if you give it enough power it might work (airbag fires). When checking a genuine inflator, use a DMM to measure with a weak current. By the way, why don't you remove the airbag lamp from the meter? Does inspector check that the lamp turns on once and then turns off during the vehicle inspection? I didn't opt for the optional airbag, so my SVX doesn't have one.
