Smile Made some guy's day

This weekend I enlisted the help of my good friend in picking up some items from Ikea. I needed a desk, chair, and dresser and there was no way of cramming all that stuff into the back of the SVX, or my girlfriend's Integra. Lucky for me my buddy drives the all time greatest utility vehicle: a 1984 BRAT.

So we were driving back across town in tandem on the 101 freeway, cruising slowly in the second lane so I didn't loose the puttery ol' 4 -banger when a '06 STI pulled up next to me. This guy had modded the heck out of his car; slammed to the ground, front mount intercooler, splitters, etc. He was smiling from ear to ear, giving me a thumbs up. He then slowed to pace my friend in the BRAT for a while, then got in line behind us. We traveled as a pack with traffic zooming past us all the way to our exit at Topanga Canyon Blvd. We pulled off at the gas station at the top of the canyon, and got out to look at each other's cars and he said that he was only headed to Century City, about 10 miles back on the highway, but he wanted to cruise for a while. Be bid each other farewell, and he got back on the freeway going back the other direction.

I sometimes feel like newer Subaru owners here in CA don't even know there's models prior to the 2000 WRX, and seldom relate their cars to older generations. But this guy was all about the heritage. I'm thinking back to a couple years ago, it would've made my day too seeing an SVX and a BRAT at the same time in LA.

Camraderie - It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru.
