transmission jack point?
is it safe to place a transmission jack under the transmission pan for removal? I've never removed a transmission, i am a little confused as to where and how exactly to position the jack...

I found this Trany Jack on Harbor freight
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=3185 my concern is the bottom of trany(trany pan) is not flat, so can the trany seats on the jack been stable enough for me to shake and pull on without falling off or just slide around on the jack even with chains and straps tie around the trany? Or there is a special adaptor made for only subaru 4EAT trany? And OT, what do you mean putting a piece of 2x12? Can you provide a couple of pictures for reference? Thanks a lot

He means a piece of lumber, 2"x12" cut to about 16" long. You could also use a piece of 1/2" or thicker plywood cut slightly larger than the pan.

OK Dave. Maybe my math is a little screwed up but how do you cut a piece of wood that is " 2 inch by 12 inch" to 16 inches? If you have a piece of wood that is 12 inches, you can't cut it down to 16 inches!
