Angry Banning Flavored Tobacco

I am not one that usually smokes but I find this legislation created by the ALA and endorsed by NY legislators as one of the most overtly unconstitutional piece of legislation if ever signed into law. This ban if put into affect will make it illegal for any tabacco with natural and artificial flavors to be sold in the US. And the only good excuse advocates can come up with is that tabacco flavors are youth oriented, I guess they never visited a Hookah Bar. For that reason alone I consider this legislation culturally bigotted.

Perhaps to make it more justifiable it can be tied in with laws that ban hard lemonade, rum, white wine and other alcaholic beverages that are sweet thus must be exclusive to youth. At least for Prohibition a healthy majority initially endorsed it. I think we should organize a protest and make it really hard for our congressmen, senators not to mention lobbyists to enter their favorite bars and resteraunts in Washington DC to see how they feel when people try to block their Persuit of Happiness.

Making flavored tobacco illegal will just make it more desirable. IMO

there are too many suits making too much legal money off of flavored tobacco to ever allow it to be banned.

The only way this could have solid footing with the Supreme Court would be if all tobacco were banned. Since that's not going to happen, I wouldn't be the slightest bit worried that A) it will get passed into law and B) stay that way.

Re: Banning Flavored Tobacco

I wonder if these lawmakers eat/drink anything tasty or maybe they drink black coffee and chew on grass like cows? I don't smoke, but I would like there to be flavored tobacco because it would probably smell better and it wouldn't bother me as much to be around people smoking

Re: Banning Flavored Tobacco

i think it is alot harder for underage people to smoke flavored tobacco than it is any other form of tobacco. im not exactly sure on all the ways to smoke flavored tobacco, but i do know about using the "water bong" type of things used at hookah bars. i have just visited my first hookah bar, even though im not a smoker, and im really allergic to cigarette smoke. hookah doesnt bother me like cigarettes, and they do check your I.D. at the door, just like any other bar. i think its harder for underage people to get away with smoking out of a hookah bong than it is to pop in some chew or light a smoke in the alley or something.

another thing i might add, not that i know personally is that alot of alcoholic beverages do seem VERY oriented towards underage people, they taste like candy (again, not that i would personally know) and they have fruity names. going overboard with alcohol in one sitting is alot more harmful than going overboard with flavored tobacco in one sitting, although neither one is really good for you.

Re: Banning Flavored Tobacco

^^^ Good point about alcohol. I used to be a really heavy drinker, but if everything tasted like straight alcohol instead of a fruity variety of mixers I probably would not have ended up like that.

I don't like the theme of "candy flavors" being only for children and arguing that anything "candy flavored" is childish. (I love mint and strawberry, but not together)

The issuers of this ban obviously feel that is the case and I don't see how anyone opposed to the ban can agree with that.

That said, what's stopping the consumer from flavoring their own tobacco or tobacco product after it has been sold?
The same thing stopping people from flavoring their drinks after they have been served? (nothing?)

Re: Banning Flavored Tobacco

well i guess the lawmakers and officials of this country need to make it seem like they deserve our tax money, too bad they dont worry about things that actually matter. its just dissappointing to see how the big wigs run this country, who really cares about flavored tobacco?? why dont they worry about the lowering value of the us dollar?

Laws are like sausages, you respect them more if you haven't actually seen how they are made.
