P0748 Code Question
Well, as an SVX owner I was ALMOST not surprised as I drove away from my home, packed for a week-long, 1200 mile trip to see my Sis in Portland, to have my Ebony pop a CE light 50 yards down the street! First one since taking possession of her. Luckily I had another car available to repack and leave with little lost time, and only a few choice words . Just figured she wanted to stay home rather than brave wet and questionable weather. Ron (NeedForSpeed) and I had her out the previous (SUNNY) day for a cruise and she performed flawlessly.
On return, I pulled a P0748 "Bad ground; short to batt or open circuit in Pressure Control Solenoid A." Searching the forum threads it sounds like it could have been a fluke, or..? My question involves the Dropping resistor and the car's current "small-car shift kit". I checked that the DR was connected, and found nothing else amiss. I'm preparing to remove this kit, and install the Quick Change I purchased for her. I'll be doing a fluid change prior, and wonder at this point if the QC install is a good idea until I'm sure the solenoid isn't an ongoing problem? Anyone? Harvey? Glenn

Re: P0748 Code Question
Hi Glenn, it is a bit hard to tell if the solenoid is a problem with the Small Cars kit on there, as the shifts will be hard regardless.
Before you fit the Quick Change, remove all the bits attached to the dropping resistor, and return the dropping resistor to standard. The code is probably caused by the kit. You should be able to tell if the solenoid is faulty then as the changes will be hard, even on a light throttle. When the QC is fitted the changes will become progressive firmer, the harder you push the throttle. Harvey.

Re: P0748 Code Question
Thank you Harvey! I was hoping that would be the case. I'll change out the trans fluid and proceed as planned, with a test period in between the removal and new QC install.
Glenn

Re: P0748 Code Question
Yeah Glenn, there is every chance it may only be a bad ground. Take the opportunity to open, clean [de-rust] and retighten every main earth connection while you are at it.
I'd do exactly as Harvey suggested, plus clean and tighten the earths. Probably not a major problem I would hope. Joe

Re: P0748 Code Question
Hadn't thought to do that Joe, but as long as I'm under her I'll see what I can clean up while I'm there. De-rust is the term!! May as well redo the battery ground while I'm at it. Thanks!
Glenn

Re: P0748 Code Question
Positive Update: I started the car last night in garage, and noticed very sharp/hard engagement going from "P" to "R" or "D", a condition new to the car. Removed the SC shift-kit and cleaned up batt ground. Took her out for a short drive this morning and noted right off the jarring engagements were gone, and shifts were extremely soft, as I remember my '93 shifted. No repetition of the P0748 code either. Looks like QC install is next!!
Thanks to everyone for their assistance!! Glenn
