Holley Terminator powered EG33?

Does anyone here run a EG33 motor from a Holley Terminator ECM? Preferably naturally aspirated? Or will I be the first?

What will be the advantage of this set-up?

Re: Holley Terminator powered EG33?

For me, this is an experienced and dedicated NHRA track car for bracket racing. Running on the factory ECU there is adaptive programming when in closed loop to get the best fuel economy, the lowest emissions, to retard timing upon detection of ping/knock. I want the car to do EXSACTLY what I tell it to do, over and over and tuned for the best performance without doing anything but logging for issues. I dont want changes for fuel economy, emissions, or anything else.

I should have baselines for before on Subaru ECU and after on Holley after AWD dyno tuning.

Re: Holley Terminator powered EG33?

I've been looking at those and the similar options from AEM, Fast, Fitech and have been leaning more heavily towards the Edelbrock offerings than the others. What is it about the Holley that you like more than all of the others, such as the ever popular megasquirt, Haltech, Link, Ecumaster etc?

Re: Holley Terminator powered EG33?

Reasons I choose Holley Terminator:
  • Cost, best bang for the buck (Haltech and such are more expensive other than megasquirt)
  • LONG time company for backing support, less likely to go belly up like Hydra
  • Popularity in knowledge for getting tunning done (AWD dyno time is expensive and seems many of the dyno owners know hot to tune Holley quick)
  • Upgrade path to even more capable products from Holley with same plugs
  • I am working on another project car that will also be Holley/Terminator powered, so shared common parts and knowledge between them
  • This is going in a points tracked NHRA race car, and if something breaks, I need parts availability quick, ebay, Amazon, Summit Racing, Jegs, all sell this common line
  • Lastly, someone here suggested the path (they can pipe up if they want to be named)

Well if you are already using a holly on another vehicle then I would definitely stick with the same thing if I were you. Good plan, keep us updated on the project.

Re: Holley Terminator powered EG33?

Im using one in mynls build and it couldn't be simpler.

Now adapting it to the Svx is a little bit more of a challenge but yhe ease of finding a capable tuner for this platform is the best selling point. There are also TONS of these units out on a track at any given moment so it just make sense.

I am hoping to have the connectors from Chris soon so i can make him a plug and play harness. We will see how it goes.

A plug n play harness would be enough to convince me to buy this over the Edelbrock option. Where does one source new connectors anyway?

Re: Holley Terminator powered EG33?

The subaru side is from speedy efi at https://speedyefi.com/product/denso-76-breakout-board/

The holley connectors can be had from summit or through holley directly. Then its a connect the dots game

Thanks Tom. I was on Rock Auto and autozone today looking for a complete engine gasket kit and other things, since I am finally getting back to working on cars again, and was surprised to see how little is available for the SVX these days. I sure hope a dealership can still get a rebuild gasket set!

Re: Holley Terminator powered EG33?

So I would assume Chris will have more to say on this since he has been on-site with this project while I have only been on the phone and online a little. This Saturday I heard the first Holley powered EG33 run for the first time!! There was drama like there always will be with bigger projects like these but man did it feel GOOD!! Chris opted to run a drive by wire throttle body for flexibility tuning the launch off the line (he cannot use a 2-step). I gotta give Chris a ton of credit for this. I kinda pushed him in this direction after his hydra got cooked and could not be replaced. Instead of being pessimistic and trying to go the cheapest route possible Chris jumped in with both feet to do it right! Now with this major step taking and test and tune runs in the near future he has a good chance to run very well this year and maybe capture some significant wins!!! The better he does this year, the better the supporting mods will be next year to go even faster!!

Re: Holley Terminator powered EG33?

Yes, Holley Terminator is cheap, but you'll probably end up nickel and dime-ing parts and converters to get it to work with the EG33 that you'd be better off with another aftermarket ECU that isn't primarily made to run LS engines.

If budget is the main concern, just go with a MegaSquirt as that's even cheaper than Holley. They even made a DIY PNP kit if you feel inclined to track one down to use since it has been discontinued. (DIYPNPN76-K is the part number)

Re: Holley Terminator powered EG33?

Sure we can make any system work. What we were looking for was a highly functional system that is used everywhere and just about any tuner is willing to work with. Also since the whole hydra belly up debacle Chris and at least one other have had a bad ecu they couldn't replace. Holley is everywhere and replacements can usually be had in the pits no.less find online

Re: Holley Terminator powered EG33?

I will upload some videos of the Holley Powered SVX running down the track. This last Sunday PROVED its running good and ready for fine tuning. This coming Saturday the 8th, Eric from MFT Solutions will be giving timing back to the engine and see if we can equal or even exceed the best times the car has previously logged on the OEM ECU. In the mean time, my SVX got featured in photo on the Firebird Raceway public shots. Its just a launch photo, but you can still see the pull on the front, and the squat on the back. I would love it if anyone here could view this photo, like and or comment to create BUZZ for this coming season. I am last years 51st Annual Ignitor Nitro Opener track champion in Sportsman for last year and defending title this year the first weekend in May. Fingers crossed for a great year!

(We NEED to dumbfound the track management on why an SVX on their page gets more likes and comments over drag cars and muscle cars.... lets do this SVXWN community!)
