Yeah the previous owners took good care of the car, meant a lot less work for me.

Drilled slotted rotors, front swaybar and end links, o2 sensors, knock sensors, Waterpump, timing belt, front differential, wheel bearings, ac compressor with R134a conversion, power steering rack, transmission, PWR radiator, ECUtune chip, Quick shift kit, new OEM windshield, and a bunch of misc other stuff were all done before I bought it.

The stack of records that came with the car blew my mind, everything back to and including the window sticker..

The actual term is "tire shaving" and is done for a variety of reasons. Do a search for more information and videos

Here is one article;

http://www.tirerack.com/winter/tech/...-d7d9e91df371&

I had to replace one of my Toyo Proxes 4 after 11,000 miles due to a road hazard. My tire dealer, Radial Tire (who does shaving) Electronically measured the circumferences of my 3 good tires and entered it into his machine.

We mounted the new Proxes4 tire onto the rim, inflated to the proper PSI and measured the circumference. Then entered the circumference on my other tires and the machine "shaved" off the tread evenly until it matched the other 3 exactly. Much cheaper than replacing all the tires.

Tire Rack offers this service to its customers. About $25.00-$35.00 each

DANNMARR. Doesn't take long to get $20,0 00 into a car. Mine has more than that into it cosmetically and Machanical.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

So I decided to see how well an 18x9.5, +38 rim with a 265/35/18 tire would fit on my car. As it turns out, not that well

Yes, the quarter panel is sitting on the tire. I was surprised nothing crumbled.

I'm debating how best to make these fit. Ideally I would like a bit more offset - I can put my whole hand between the coilover body and the tire. More offset would also make my wheel bearings less hateful of me. Unfortunately I don't think Rota sells a higher offset version of the Grid in that width. If I was rolling in money there is a variant of the Volk TE37 (the "authentic" version of the Grid) with more offset, but $1000/wheel is a little much for me. I do need to add camber, which will help. Currently I'm actually running +0.1 degree, so dialing in -1.5 or so will definitely help fitment as well as make the car handle better.

Something else I'm debating is rounding the top of the wheel well. Since I'm replacing these panels anyway I'll just carve a slice out of them as I go and see how it looks. I would like to close the wheel well as a whole, the front and back are too much open space.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Sears has buy 3 get 1 free on Goodyear Eagle GT's, so my car is getting some new shoes tomorrow

Bought them: They look nice! Gonna take it for a longer drive today to see how they perform. Total came out to $401 with road hazard protection on them (and with the amount of construction that goes on here, it may be needed). Not bad considering most places were charging $500-$600 for the same setup.

Wheeldude sells them in 18x8.5 +44, but I want to have some fun and be a little rediculous. My BBS wheels are 8" wide and running 245 width tires already. I want moar rubber! I could put a 275 on that wheel, but I'm planning on getting a set of Dunlop Star Specs which are notorious for being wider than their specified dimension.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Was going to change my oil yesterday along with my new tires, but my new oil container is too tall to fit under my car (5.5 inches of ground clearance my ass, more like 4.5-5), so I'm gonna grab some Rhino Ramps today. RWD car owners seem to hate them, but AWD/4WD/FWD owners have no problems with them

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

i use those ramps all the time. If your doing it in a garage or something with a smooth surface put some rugs/mats under the ramps to hold them while you drive up.

my only issue is after the car is on the ramps, the rear bumper is way too low for me to get a jack under it.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Dropped the tranny X-member on my '92 Legacy to swap out the vehicle speed sensor #1 and the tranny mount came apart in my hands. Had an SVX mount handy but they're not interchangeable.... D'oh!

Those wheels are F***ING SWEET! I want some for my car haha
Also, thank goodness you're replacing those panels. Looking at that rust made me cringe.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Swapped the OEM am/fm cd cassette in the '97 for a fully functional one I got from Geoff 2 years ago for the price of shipping $15.00.

Thanks again Geoff!

P.S. Thanks David (SVXdc) for the How To.
