LarryIII, I also heard that they improved the outside tread quality in hoping to avoid abnormal wear. We'll see...

Not sure if they are still produced or not, I am sure the last time I saw them listed at Tire Rack they were in excess of $200 per tire! Bonus trivia: The Bridgestone Potenza RE71 was the designated "summer" tire.

I wouldn't recommend the AVS db S2's at all in the snow. They are a good summer tire but make your your alignment & pressures are bang on or you will experience abnormal wear.
For snow just get yourself a set of winter tires and save yourself an accident.

We do not get snow in DE like you do in Canada, so the AVS dB S2's may be ok for our SVX.

So what's a recommended all season tire that doesn't cost an arm and a leg then?

still haven't decided. Need help from tire experts and price opinions. Would it be practical to get all season tires since I live upstate NY? Thanks. |

So many tires, it's hard to decide. I would consider:
- what surfaces you will be driving on mainly(snow/wet/dry/asphalt/gravel/ice...) - how much you are willing to spend - if you can afford separate summer/winter tires - look at reviews on the tires that are left, decide which tire fits your needs then get the tires that are "one better" then the ideal ones

For my £0.02 worth (opinions are slightly more vauable on this side of the pond) I have been running Yokohama AVS Sports for the last couple of thousand miles. If you want extreme wet and dry grip, they are worth a look. I have never had a car/tyre combination with so much raw grip, just amazing. The wear rate is meant to be high but it is too early to predict how long they will last.

Turanza's
I recently put a set of the turanzas on a Lexus GS 400. If they're made in Poland then those guys got it DOWN! They are MUCH MUCH quieter than the Toyo Proxes I took off and smoother too. I can tell no difference in grip, dry, and possibly better in the wet. I would highly recomend them for noise alone if that is a concern for you!
