I checked for broken motor mounts on my old '66 Galaxie 500 by dropping the gear selector into drive, standing on the brake for all I was worth, and giving her the gas. That big 390 nearly came out of the car.

Not that I recommend this procedure...

If the vibration goes away you probably have a bad engine mount. The mounts are hydraulic, having a small shock absorber inside of them (so to speak.) When the mount begins to go bad they sometimes drag inside and not settle properly. They will also begin to 'sink' or 'collapse' allowing them to mainly rest against their travel limiter flanges, basically resulting in a 'no cushioning' position.

I've seen it on the GM's with the control arm bushings, but it can't happen that way with an SVX. Mike if you want to bring it down to the shop I'll check it out for you.

You sir will have a PM shortly...

Also thanks for the rest of the help from everyone else. These is no noticable movement from the engine while revving in park or reverse...Which leads me to believe it's the bushing problem also the rear diff mounts making all of the other noise and looseness...ahh what fun...

shock absorber

My Subaru dealer said I need shocks. Where is the best place to buy them and what kind and who should I get to install them. What is the difference in that and strut that I see you talking about. Maybe it isnt the shocks. The symptoms are the steering wheel shaking when going over washboard type bumps like a railroad track. thanks. Bill
