O.K., Call me Becker
Yah, I'm not proud of my remark or that I took the bait and for that I apologize.
I can crack on F-L-M as well as any other make. Actually I am probably better prepared to do so than the cumulative roster here. I have worked as an independent, non-affiliated technician for thirty-five years and have only worked for a L-M dealer since last November. I have a really, really good frame of reference when it comes to deciphering who makes the most POSs - I have had to fix them all. There are a couple other guys here that understand what I am saying. They all have issues. I work on more cars in one week than most people will own in their lifetime. And yes, I think that gives me a little credence.. Good Lord, I hope I don't slip and fall on this soapbox. I don't know if my insurance will cover splinters in my attitude.

Don't sweat it Beav. I wasn't offended. Jokes are jokes. I've been shot at and hospitalized 5 times for various work related incidents. I'm sure I can survive another cop and a donut joke.

Hi everyone, Well maybe there is hope for the human race after all. Of course we are talking about SVX people but never the less I might have my part and everyone is talking nice to each other. I like it. Take care, BOBB

Without seeing the box I'm assuming (o.k., I can be the 'ass' part of that) that the nuts are/were encapsulated in the box (#5.) A number of OEMs use that style closure (SVX timing cover), I'm sure it is a vendor-sourced part. Generally what we find is that most are damaged by quickie oil change outlets that are trying to pound you for an add-on air filter and they overtorque the bolts which in turn breaks the nuts loose in #5 (we replace a lot of stripped drain plugs for the same reason. Too tight and screwed-up is a better risk than loose, for them.)
Anyyyyywayyyyy..... we're back at ground zero. Seeing how you'll probably only need to check/change the filter every 15-20k, I can understand not wanting to spend much on the problem. Personally, I'd live with it (especially since it seems too late to pin it on the real culprit.)

Hi Beav, Up until I went to change the filter, the car had been serviced by the dealer. I removed the two bolts on the outside with out a problem. When I got to the back neither one would unscrew. I would always rather have the dealer break it instead of me, so off to the dealer I went. Take care, BOBB

Bad news you can't buy #5 you have to buy the whole thing #1 I would try to buy a used one from a dismantler as a new one is going to cost around $200

Hi Victor, Thanks for checking for me. The price I had found from "junk" yards of 75 to 100 dollars wasn't so bad after all. Take care, BOBB
