From what I read, the multiple quiet beeps means that it's just locking and unlocking the doors, not arming or disarming the security system.

It's locking/unlocking as it's supposed to, it just sounds/looks like it's not getting enough juice, like it's hooked to a dead battery(which it's not).

Section under "keyless entry" is what I was talking about. Is it like that?

That's exactly it. Thank you. I was kinda worried it wasn't getting enough power somehow.

Got a remote on the way, should be able to test my system to see if the security unit still functions properly. Will try to answer any questions I can for you, too, SVXdc.

One set of instructions I have says you can't do an 'active arm' until all doors are closed first.

I recall seeing somewhere that the system will flash the lights and honk oddly when it thinks the batteries in the transmitter are getting weak.

The info on cars101.com says that the system sounds multiple short beeps when you lock/unlock with the system turned off (strictly keyless entry mode, not alarm mode).

TRUE. If the doors or trunk are not closed when trying to arm the system, nothing happens, no beep, no flash of the parking lights.

I have never encounterd this. I have had batteries that were almost dead and this never happened. The remote batteries either have enough power to arm the system or not.

TRUE. If the SECURITY switch on the dash is turned off, when you close the door and press the remote, the horn beeps very rapidly 4-5 times to let you know the doors are locked but the alarm system is not engaged.
