Now correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this network originally created so that SVX enthusiasts could have a place to share their experiences/knowledge with others and help people who might not know as much as they do? There is a wealth of information here, both previously discussed and in the experiences of the senior members of this board. So instead of badgering people who don't quite understand why you're so frustrated with their questions, why not use your experience and knowledge to help someone out who probably genuinely needs it?

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but respect for you guys. I've learned more from this site than just about any other forum I've ever been a member of. I just think the information could be more readily shared at times.
I am not the answer to your questions. Like "what year transmission can I use out of a legacy for a 5mt" "How hard is a engine swap"

This information is PASTED all over the forums over and over again. I probably read this forum for a month before I even joined as I read all the posts that I searched about

I am willing to share what I have learned but when people send me a PM instead of posting a thread, no one else can learn from it... So my breathe is typically wasted.

Re: Please no more

Tom is right and so are members here asking why they can't ask questions ---- but

1) Ask the question in the proper forum so everyone can see the question and answer. There are lots of senior members here that can answer the question and may have a different perspective that may help the same problem. It should not be asked in a PM where only one member is constantly asked the same questions over and over. Many members can't see what is going on, because it is all done via PMs. These questions need to be asked in the proper forum.

2) PMs are fine, but use them for communication between members and not for general questions. You may have a question for someone, but if it is a technical question, that is what the different forums are for. If they are there, everyone can see the question and answer and learn from it.

3) The Search feature is not the best. When I know of a thread that I want to find, many times I can not find it using the Search. Many times members will suggest the search feature because somenone just asked the same question and some are too lazy to try to find it. They want someone else to spoon feed them. There is a middle ground here. Try to find it and if you can't, ask the question. I have seen a question, (as many here have) and used the search button and it is the first thing that pops up. Use it when you can, and ask when you need to. We are not trying to keep members from the information, but want members to use some effort to at least try to find it.

I hope this clears this situation up a little.

Sorry Tom, I didn't realice you were referring to people PMing you. That is totally understandable and I can see where your frustration is coming from.

Re: Please no more

I was pulling a customers car into the garage a few days ago, and before I was able to pull it in to start working I recieved two phone calls about technical stuff.

It took about 45 minutes to get off of the phone and get the car lined up just to start my day!

That is 45 minutes answering questions, without pay!

That means I have to work 45 minutes longer in the day.

I already work seven days a week.

YT, I certainly understand where you are coming from.

I am not harping on people who post threads asking questions... Don't get me wrong. Problem is, I clean out my PM box every month now and it gets stacked with 500+ pm's every month. This takes a huge amount of time to reply to them when really most of the answers are already posted on the boards. It sucks because times like now, I will leave my box full so I cannot get them anymore and anyone who really wanted to send me a PM about something specific will not be able to.

Also, I work for a living like anyone else here (mostly). Do not have your mechanic call me about your car asking how they can fix it. I am not going to take the time out of my work day to answer questions that someone should really know already if they are fixing your car.

Tom

Re: Please no more

So the point here is to post a thread asking your question instead of a PM or phone call. We are not asking you to not ask a question if you don't understand something or can't find it in a search.

The problem on this board as of late is that it has turned into a high school clash of the egos. On the one hand, you've got people who are high and mighty because they are on the admin side of things, which gives them a power trip and they'd rather express that by being snobby than work on improving the way things are stored and the usefulness of the search feature. I also receive many PMs asking questions because people are tired of posting a thread and getting replies with people, again, clashing egos and arguing with each other when usually both parties have it about 50-60% right. If I want a straight answer to a question I will PM the person whose answer I think will have validity and not the person who is going to do one of the following:

1. Provide an answer that is incorrect due to "facts" that aren't correct.

2. Provide an answer that is going to promote the sale of a product they market on this board.

3. Argue with me over why I am asking the question in the first place and question the validity of the question to begin with.

I've been a member of this board just as long, if not longer that darn near everyone here, as a matter of fact I remember when it was first started, and it was a useful tool that was made out of a desire to improve the accessibility and the communal knowledge out of the yahoo group from which it came. In the past few years we have managed to butt heads with some members so violently that entire threads and posts have been censored and removed, and even an alternate board has been created. (in a drastic example) If you want the PMs to stop, emplore the people who run this thing to continue to improve it, and ask everyone to stop the petty bickering, less we all see this board outlive it's usefulness entirely.

I don't really see anyone who is on a power trip and being snobby and not helping members here. You can PM anyone you would like to and ask questions, but I think you are missing the point here.

So how would you store things so that they can be found on the search engine?

How is this helpful? You seem to be doing the same thing that you complain about above.

Many members and I have been here longer than you have, but that doesn't prove anything. This site has grown, the age of the members is less now than before, and there have been changes as well. If you think about why the "other site" was started, you would realize that it came about because some members created so much trouble that they had to be dropped as members. That site wecomed any of the members who did not like the rules that were here, even though we wanted to keep the site the same quality as it was from the begining. Keeping this site with as many members as we have runing smoothly is not an easy task. The administration and moderators have only one thing in mind. To make this a great community of SVX owners, or members interested in the SVX. We want to promote this car as well as help members maintain or repair their cars and keep them on the road.

It would appear that there has been controversy of late, regarding the lengths I have had to go to, in order to ensure that members do not ---”Provide an answer that is incorrect due to "facts" that aren't correct.”

Certainly as a result, some tortuous and frustrating threads have developed, much to my cost in time and patience. If you have been unable to understand exactly why, the information is wrong and must be corrected, this is not my problem. Please do not in ignorance, complain within the other forum, hoping that I will be unable to reply.

No doubt by calling a spade a spade, I will again $hit in my own nest. However I could not care less, so here goes ---

Why is it that “Subaru SVX” recorded as a googly search, results in Subaru SVX World Forums coming up on the third page, and no record of this site by page eight, at which point I gave up?

Why when “Subaru SVX forums” is recorded as a googly search, does Subaru SVX World Forums appear at the top of page one, then again on pages two, three and eight, at which point I again gave up without discovering any lead to this site.

It does not take much brain power, to understand why the opposition has advanced so quickly.

Yes, I am a nasty thorn in your foot.
