All OBDII models have the third sensor. So your '96 has one.

Code 37 is the left O2 sensor. See above for pricing. It probably won't help your milage but won't get you 10 mpg, something else is wrong. B.

I should be able to tell you today. They should be arriving. I've never bought an O2 sensor that had to be spliced. Up until now, I've only had to change the O2 sensor in only one of the many cars I've owned, and then, it was with an OE with proper connector. Will report once they arrive.

It could account for SOME of your fuel inefficiency, but not THAT much. My 92, with almost 200K on it, get's 20 city and 22 mixed. Something's diffinitely askew.

I know this may sound stupid (I'm not mechanically literate) but what could be some causes of the low gas mileage. I've only had the SVX for about a couple of months and hardly drive it. I'm in the process of moving and selling my place in Fla.

It could be a multitude or combinations of multitudes of things. Plugs, intake, injectors, have you cleaned your throttle body lately? It could be combustion related, fuel delivery related . . . hard to tell. Does it seem to run okay? If so, the CPU could be adjusting for the problem or variety of problems. I'd start by thoroughly cleaning the throttlle body, and go from there. Sorry I can't be of more help. Anyone else?

the thing is hardly know much about the car yet. It drives like a dream for a little while and when the check engine light comes on it starts getting sluggish. Not drastically but you can tell.

I've always brought my cars to trusted people who won't try to sell you a service that isn't needed. Too many bad experiences. I just wanted to get input from you guys (and I really appreciate it) before taking it to someone.

Thing is unlike upstate NY there aren't that much Subaru dealers arround and most mechanics don't really know much about it. The dealers service is usually overpriced and like I said , may sell you something your car doesn't need. I tried checking the SVX Shop search , but none in my area.

Your experience with dealers is the rule. Not the exception (not to offend any of our members who work at dealerships and the like).

I mean, if you're getting a CE light and the cause has been identified, the OBVIOUS thing to do is replace the sensor (personally, as you can see, I'd replace both). But, do that first and check your mileage. Cleaning the throttle body is one of the least expensive and best things you can do to keep your mileage up. Cost: a couple of cans of TB or Carb cleaner and 20-30 minutes time. I'd suggest cleaning the TB at every other oil change as a matter of habit.

Well, they just arrived. The connectors are crimp type, butt connectors. There is a solder hole, if you wish to solder. The kit is complete with shrink tubing for the connections and with high temp anti-sieze for the sensor threads.

The diagram shows that, in all cases for Subaru OE sensors, the sensor signal wire is Black and the Heater wires are white. The heater is not polarity dependent, so, just attach blue to black and the two blacks to whites and you're good to go (Replacement sensor has Blue sensor signal wire and black heater wires).

I installed A/M sensors (splice in) and they're doing fine. I ordered the plug ins for the other car, but haven't installed them yet. www.oxygensensors.com.
