Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Today, I installed the right valve cover, and after much dithering, pulled the left cover. The AC line on RHD cars limits the access much further. I ended up pulling the bolts from the compressor and pulling off the starter wiring in order to get more wiggle room. I'm glad to be getting this done. The valve covers were both leaking.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?
Yesterday, I re-wrapped portions of the engine wiring harness, reassembled some of the engine bay, replaced some a/c O-rings, and ordered a new AC drier.
I noticed the plug on injector #4 lost its little nib that keeps the plug on. I may try repairing the nib before I replace the injector for this issue alone. I'm waiting on a large parts order to come in at the dealer relating to my upcoming timing belt service. Depending on when that arrives, I may move on to extracting the dashboard and heater core before I do more work under the hood. We'll see!

Let us know if it fits. I've ordered 3 after market ones that haven't fit.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?
It's a warm day today. The forecast is for rain and snow to after tomorrow.
Almost of snow around the garden and garage has melted, so today I'm recharging the batteries of my SUBARUs, which don't used in snow season. The batteries are in good condition, but I will be charging 3 devices for 2-3 hours each just in case. |

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?
Last night, I pulled the console and instrument cluster out of my SVX, and started remove the dashboard for the heater core repair.
I still have the intake, battery, and throttle body on the bench. Waiting on engine seals and hoses before I continue with the engine-related maintenance.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?
Pulled the dashboard from my SVX today. I've done it, a long time ago, but its still a challenging job. Followed the FSM = made the job seem easier than in the past. I recommend two people to lift out the dash. Very challenging to lift it out solo.
Onto the steering support beam, evaporator and heater core.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?
Removing the dashboard is one of the last things I want to do. The dashboard of my other Subaru is sticky and I would like to replace it if possible, but it would be a very difficult task.
Anyway, once it's removed you'll have easy access to the cruise control ECU. |

The shape/depth of the SVX dash makes it particularly awkward to lift out of place. This time, I dropped the steering column down, but, didn't have the seat slid all the way back before the battery was disconnected. Following the FSM and dropping the column made the job much easier than when I had done it in the past. Today, picked up rear struts and a small mountain of seals, hoses and clamps from the dealer. More supplies for the heater repair and timing belt service. I hope to have the heater box/core out of the car this week. Steering beam and aircon box must come out, next.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?
Extracted the heater core box and pulled the core from the box. Evidence of coolant residue on the core, so the unit was definitely leaking. I'll be brining the heater core itself to a radiator shop, with the intention of getting something fabricated as a replacement.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?
During the forum's downtime this week:
I brought my heater core to a fabrication shop, actually two shops: one for the tubing and another to make the core itself and braze/weld on the tubes. I am replacing the plastic/aluminum core with a brass unit that should give a much longer service life. The shop was puzzled why Id go through the effort with an old Subaru . Hopefully the shop does a nice job with the unit and it fits into the heater box properly. Yesterday, I replaced the original, hardened PCV hoses. These are still available from Subaru: 807415082 807412172 807519082 I had to chip the short lower hose off. I doubt it was sealing. Today, I may replace the short flexible ATF hoses between the engine and transmission, and may attempt to fashion a replacement to the coolant TB hoses from universal hose.

How about 807520162 , 807412132 and 807412142 ? Was it discontinued ? |

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?
Unfortunately, most of those parts were discontinued in Japan. I was only able to order two. Anyway, thanks. Basically, I do not touch any hose if there are no issue. It will make leak trouble.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?
I did successfully replace the two flexible hoses between engine and transmission today.
I have not attempted to source the two longer hoses. Which of the hoses are you unable to get, Noriyasu?
