All Yahoo is doing is writing down what the world said. It wasn't their opinion.

The other guy

It was 1987! At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video of Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan Administration.

There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled by a senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."

The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just a little excessive?"

"No, sir," continued Ollie.

"No? And why not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."

"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.

"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.

"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

"His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued. Why are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.

"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie answered.

"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.

"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."

The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was shown of the clip.

By the way, that senator was Al Gore!

Don't take it as a bash on Gore or anyone else, it's just sad that people in our government knew of Osama and did not eliminate him long ago. The world is a big place, it's going to be tough to bring him to justice. 1987...since then both Republicans and Democrats have held office.

Politics

I just hope these people that died aren't being used as a political stepping stone for anyone. Also in my opinion if there was a hero after the incident it would be Mayor Giuliani, he had the hardest job of anyone after 9/11 and did not use it for his own gain in any way.

Ollie spent $60,000 for a security system? That's a heck of a lot of paranoia. A tin foil hat may have been just as beneficial.

Hmmmm..... Republican?

Why yes!! He is!!

Ollie was a mid level military officer. In the late 80's, he was bringing down maybe 65k a year....

And he spends $60,000 on a security system....

Now I wasn't paying much attention to politics back then, so I'm sketchy on the outcome of Iran/Contra. I remember that Reagan took ownership under the "I forgot" clause, Ollie went to jail, and how much money was involved. I felt it was such a trivial amount on a national level, the numbers stuck with me.

Hmmmm........

Now..... Iran/Contra broke out in the open because the Iranians got ticked off and went public..

Hmmmmm.... Because they found out they spent $30 million on $18 million worth of weapons.

Hmmmmm... The big deal before all hell broke loose was Reagan trying to figure out how he was going to get them that $12 million...

Oh man, I'm cracking up... After all these years, the light bulb comes on... That is so funny!! No wonder that pecker was so patriotic, I would of been too!! Maybe all of this came out during the hearings, I wasn't watching during the time.

But it's funny as hell now!!

You are making a fool out of yourself, Robert. At least be honest when honesty is due.

Honesty?

Tell me Lee. If an Orangutan had won the Presidential election, what would have been the outcome of the 9/11 catastrophy?

Answer: 1 plane would have hit the south tower, 1 plane into the north tower, 1 would hit the Pentagon, and 1 would have crashed in a field.

Absolutely no difference. None.

And people like you actually re-elected him on the basis he could keep you safer! BWA HA HA!! Snort! Bwaaaaa Ha ha!!

Lets Count

Lets count the terrorist attacks during the Clinton administration and the successful counterattacks or retaliation.

Then count the number of successful terrorist attacks since 9/11.

Where's Osama?

When have we successfully counterstruck Osama Bin Laden? Sure he's sitting in some rat bitten hole somewhere....but he's alive. When I see his head I will count it as a success.

The number of terrorist attacks are literally hundreds of times higher than they were. Most have lost count how many there have been, but some of us have never lost count of their victims. -> Gallery

Before the Bush administration, the republican party never treated our military as write offs, or second rate citizens. I find the fact that your party writes them off as they do now as appalling.

I wish you, and all your die hard neo cons would take a few minutes and really look at that gallery. Those are us. They are citizens just like me and you. Appalling.... It really is. Especially since your party made Iraq into this safe harbor for terrorism. It's disgusting what's happened to your party, and your blind question above proves it.
