Thanks Bill. I'll update my blog with these results once Alex gets some pics up on the Team WTF?! website.

Hope you wanted the 2nd video on the page - that ones hosted by youtube and therefore can be embedded. The other one you'd have to ask RSVX to figure out for ya. Gave the other one a shot - failed miserably. It is hosted from another site. Alright guys, I finished my first Autocross this year (and in nearly 2 years too!) with the SVX... Here are a few notes on it...
Location: MCAS New River (Marine Corps Air Station); Jacksonville, NC Course Rating (1 to 10): 8 - 8.5 Course Speed (1 to 10): 9 Course difficulty (1 to 10): 7 - 7.5 Competition in "SM" 2007 Mitsubishi EVO MR 2006 Mitsubishi EVO 9 2002 Subaru WRX 2003 Subaru WRX Wagon 1995 Nissan 240SX (SR-20 swapped) 1993 Nissan 240SX (?? mods) Well this course was Awesome! Very good speed for the space that we had to work with. There were two times where I touched the revlimit in 2nd gear before having to brake. If I get the chance to draw up the course and scan it in I'll do that and post it... We got 6 runs total (3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon). First run out I took FTD in the SVX with a time of 65.847 !!! Never would have thunk it huh? However, after my second run I lost FTD to the 2007 EVO MR that was in my class. His time was a 64.102 , where as I coned one of the finish line cones with a 65.125 (+1)... So in waiting the almost 10 minutes for my third run of the morning I studied the course again, trying to figure out where I could make up 1.7 seconds... I spoke with some of the other, older Autocrossers that were there about tire pressures and corner entry techniques they were using in their cars. I decided to try to go back to 1st gear for the two hairpin turns that we had. The result was rather shocking, but consistent with my 3rd and 4th runs. I was a whole second slower when I was shifting back to 1st for the tight stuff. Times for my 3rd and 4th runs were 66.488 and 66.442... (There was a lunch break between the 3rd and 4th runs also so that kinda solidified the fact that downshifting was not effective...) 5th run I decided to stay in 2nd gear and concentrate more on staying tight than outright speed through the fast stuff... It worked, I managed a 65.132... Last run of the day and I still had a whole second to make up on that EVO... I decided that he had *ATLEAST* 100whp more than me, was lighter than me, on the same tires as me (Azenis RT-615's). The only way to do better than him was to down right drive better than him... Watching his last run, he left the line with all four tires smoking (damn that thing is powerful). Finished with another 64.1xx, prooving that his 2nd run of 64.102 wasn't just a fluke. So he had the car and the skill... Now it was my turn to play ball... As I'm sitting on the line getting ready to start there were a few things running through my head. "Start slow and carry a constant speed through the decreasing distance slalom so you don't have to brake like he had to"... "Keep the run the same way you want your girl, clean and tight and the clock will show"... "Gentle off the line..."... Finally I get going after "meditating" for a few seconds. Went through the slalom near perfectly, onto the straight topping out in 2nd gear kissing the rev-limiter for about 1.2 a second before braking HARD and into the 90* right. Back on the gas for a second or two before hard braking again for the 120* right, kept it clean and tight ... Up to the first of the "U-turns", again clean and tight, into another 120* right turn and now for the 3rd fastest part of the course, up to about 55 mph before a quick left and hard 45* right... Straight for a second or two then 90* left, into straight for 2 or 3 seconds before surface change (Concrete ---> Asphalt!!) and a looooong 180+* left which the Subarus were awesome at ... Back onto the Concrete after exiting the turn... Straight for a second or 2 until the second hairpin "U-turn"... Then onto the fastest bit... Long easy sweeping right hander and a surface change from concrete to asphalt, which I touched the rev-limiter for about a second in 2nd gear before braking VERY HARD (and getting a little sideways while the ABS sorted things out) for the "Chicago box"... Dove in and out of the box and into the two cone slalom, quick left - right and then straight into the finish... Final run time... 64.550... I didn't catch the EVO ... But overall I was VERY impressed with the performance of the SVX and how well it faired against many cars that "should have" beaten it... FTD went to a supercharged Miata on R-compounds and probably the most trick suspension I have seen on a Miata ever, it was a 61.9xx... So overall I was very happy to FINALLY trophy in the SVX!!! Pictures In the Garage after putting on the Autocross wheels and tires... After I took off the Roof Rails I noticed that they had another use on the car... After thinking long and hard about it, I decided that a double decker wing isn't something that my SVX needed... At the Autocross, onto the 3rd fastest part of the course... I really need to get a camera that takes video so I can take some video... ~ Chris

I'll take the pointy "Alps" looking one in the bottom left corner... Delivered please, with the price of gas, I don't see a trip to Mars anywhere in my near future....
So for all this time you were using the "mars mission" as an excuse to miss various meets, from the looks of that video, it was only 3 people that worked on the project.... and you weren't one of them What excuse are you going to use now??? Seriously, congrats on a successful mission. Quite an accomplishment. oh, by the way, I have the perfect photo for NASA's PR department to use;

Harry/Dave,
I was only involved in Phoenix to the extent that I know the Principal Investigator (Peter Smith) and his boss (Michael Drake) at the Lunar Planetary Lab at the University of Arizona is the Principal Investigator on the Asteroid Sample return mission I've been working on for the last three years. My Mars mission is actually one of only two missions still in the running to be the next Mars mission (launch in 2013 since NASA HQ hosed up the 2011 launch opportunity). The Launch System Manager for Phoenix at Lockheed Martin is also slated to be the Launch System Manager on the Mars mission I'm working on, so I've been working with him for ~ 2 years. -Bill
