On my way to work lastnight, i took a hard left turn and heard a grinding sound coming from the transmission. Im guessing theres something rolling around in there. I dont understand why it wont go into park though. I didnt think i touched anything that had to do with the gears. ??

The parking pawl in my hand in this picture is what locks the trans in park. You can see how the original goes in behind it actually in the trans. I believe yours has fallen out of place. This can DESTROY your tranny. Do not drive it. Take it apart where it sits and double check it.

Thats what i was guessing it was. I was watching for it to fall out on the ground but it must have fallen out and stayed inside the tranny.
Took me 5 hours to do the job last time. Im shooting for 3 this time. The new gasket i installed yesterday should still be good right?

And you will save time by not having to scrape off the old gaskets. While you have it open make sure to blot up any filings. Good luck.

Well i took it apart and found the spring wrapped around behind one of the gears. Nothing else seemed to be damaged. I couldnt leave the car where it was, so i took out the spring and the pawl and put everything back together. So everything is working now except the wheels dont lock when it is in park. I will order the spring and install it next week.
Took me about half as long to take everything apart this time. had some problems getting the drive shaft back in. usually it just slides in, but it didnt want to this time, so i had to use a hammer. Not looking forward to doing this again.

I have never seen, or heard of that. Usually you just turn it untill it goes in easily.

Im not sure what could have caused it. I tried rotating it about a dozen different times and it always goes in about an inch before getting stuck. Ive had it out a few times before and it always just slides back in easily. I have an extra drive shaft that i will try next time. I think the one im using has a bad u-joint anyway.

The little pipe that goes into the hole by solenoid c was bent when i found it. Is it supposed to fit tight into the hole? The end of the pipe was just pointed into the hole, not even touching it. I will try to bend it back so that it fits tightly. Could this have caused my binding? because im still getting some, even after changing the solenoid.

1. If the car rolls while the shifter is in the park position, then the parking pawl/spring is not installed correctly. 2. If the car does not roll while the shifter is in neutral, the spring/pawl is not installed correctly. If either of these is the case, i would not drive the car. If #2, you wont be able to anyway.

Well i got everything back together and working correctly. Installed the parking pawl and spring and it functions properly.
Unfortunately, im still getting binding. Does this mean i have a bad transfer valve? clutches? I think i will just drive in FWD until something breaks, and then do a 4.44 swap, or maybe just replace the whole rear section of the transmission. Thanks for all the help. No way i could have done this on my own.

Replace the pipe. Don't try and make it work, just replace it. Without it, the solenoind will not operate correctly because the fluid going to/from it will leak out.
