Yeah, retaining salvage is a good idea. Even if you don't want the SVX anymore, they'll only take out the salvage amount they're expecting to receive from your settlement (so, something like $3100 instead of $3500 and you keep the car). They ought to tow it to you, too, but that's not guaranteed.

By the way, AAA ERS (Emergency Roadside Service; i.e. the standard "AAA" card) will not tow a salvage vehicle in relation to an insurance claim.

Think about it; part it out here or on eBay, and you'll not only make up far more than the paltry $300-600 that they're probably estimating for salvage, but you're making a lot of SVX owners very happy. Or, you could sell the whole thing to an SVX owner or prospective owner for more than the salvage amount, too. In any case, it makes no sense to not retain salvage for a vehicle of this kind.

Now, a 1990 Toyota Corolla would be another story. But an SVX? Come on.

I have to double check my paper work because I think my father received roughly $3000 as apayout from allstate for my 92 with 150k miles.

Do you still need paperworK?

Thanks. I don't think I need anything more right now as everything I have heard so far (albeit only a few cars) sweems to indicate that my insurer is being fair. Acouple of people have posted regarding cars of unusual value due to extremely low mileage. I will let you know if I need anything more. Thanks again.

Not so much a question of how we owners value these cars, but what recent sales have been. If I could find a half dozen recent sales of cars with 125,000 to 175,000 miles and what their condition was and they indicated that my car was worth significantly more than $3100, then I would have something useful to go back to my insurer to try to get more money out of them.

Thanks for your kind thoughts.

Gary

Here are a couple of things that might help, and it also has to be the market price in your area, by law, (if you want it too)

Hi Gary,

With that kind of age and mileage the insurance companies don't want to pay much. Do you think you will miss the car?

John

John - Nice to hear from you. It has been a while.

Will I miss it? Heck, I still miss my 1967 Volvo P1800.

So what have you been up to? Did you ever get back to the Cricket Hill Brewery?

Gary

The insurance companies wouldn't give you a dime for any brand new car it they
didn't have to. It took state farm 6 months to give me half what my legacy was worth.

Well yeah a few times, then I stopped going, they got busted!!! about a year ago, now the beer is "served" by an employee in a small cup. It was a unique place eh? I just a bunch of parts off an SVX in Bath PA. I know I will need them
