Re: No more bronze windshields?

Well the glass company said I had to go to the dealer for the waviness of the windshield because it would be a warranty issue being that the glass was Subaru dealer glass. I think they just didn't want to install another one because they installed the wrong one in the first place. If they would have said "Hey we received your windshield but it's green do you want us to install it?" I would have told them no, but they installed it without asking. Anyway I located a bronze one in Spokane. I went to the dealer about the waviness of the glass and they said they would take care of it because it is a safety issue. They were more than willing to help. More than I can say for the glass company.

Re: No more bronze windshields?

I have had some initial contact with SOA on this subject. So far here is what they tell me:

ALL the windsgield numbers have been superseded to the 65001PA300 (green) number. There are 38 of these in the country. So no matter what you order, you will still get the green one.

Bronze is no longer listed in either the US or Canadian database.

However, FHI may still be producing windshields, through their external supplier, if there is enough of a demand. But at the same time, they may figure it is unnecessary to produce 3 colors of windshields and 2 types (Titanium coated and uncoated), so they may just produce only one color (probably green).

I have to look at the manufacturers info on the windshield to research further. Since this is not a FHI mold (like body parts) the molds of the external supplier may still be available for them to produce more, if we demonstrate the need; the same with the moldings.

Damn! Looks like svxcess (AKA "Pace Car Pit-bull") has found a new challenge.

Re: No more bronze windshields?

This ad was found on craigslist for Portland, OR. If you really want a bronze windshield, it's probably worth looking into.

Fascinating discussion...thanks.

Can someone please explain what the titanium coating was used for? Was it a color base..or did it have a more obscure use?

It helps to reduce UV radiation from entering the car.

It was also used for blocking transmissions from you garage door opener, as well as a satalite radio repellent.

Re: No more bronze windshields?

Well I just received our SVX back from the glass shop and the windshield is bronze. I found one in Spokane and they shipped it to our local dealer. The glass company installed it for free since they made the mistake on the green one. The dealer warrantied the glass since it had the optical distortion right in the driver's view.
