Hey Todd
How many miles have you put on that engine since you did the headgaskets?

Couple o' thousand John. Two days after I finished it I drove it to Indy for the 10th Anniversary meet. Since then it's been lightly used (to say the least )

The belt tensioner thread got me thinking

look in to replacing that component as well Matt. Possibly the oil pump too, based on the miles. Cam seals?

Beav,
I read your post and wanted to add some details. The "black goo" was very oily feeling. I know that anti-freeze has an oily feel as well. I scrubbed the overflow bottle out last summer when I replaced the components. I didn't smell burning anti-freeze, the car did not stumble or miss at any time, and I didn't notice any white smoke. The fluid level is where it was the last time I checked about two weeks ago. I'll check the tail pipes in a minute.

One thing I have been noticing for the last couple of months is a gurgling/bubbling sound behind the dashboard when the car is started. Could an air pocket trapped somewhere in the cooling system cause this kind of erratic temperature reading? The needle went from its standard position, up to just shy of the red zone and then bounced around between those points as I drove. Moving thru traffic typically lowered the temps and running the heater helped as well. Running the A/C drove the temps up very quickly.

Todd
Todd,
IF you do have a catastrophic failure, and are in need of engine components(warped head etc) i have my complete engine you could use parts from.ANYTHING TO STOP YOU FROM SELLING IT! Let me know. And cheap too, dirt cheap.

Thanks Phil. I truly appreciate your offer.

Re-reading those posts reminded me of what a great site this place truly can be. Your post fits in nicely with that sentiment bud

As SVXer95 pointed out, this happened a couple of years ago. Tore it out and down and rebuilt it. I now have two spare engines in the garage just in case; one complete and one in pieces.

Collin,

You're a Kettering student from what I recall. Is that right? Do you know Mat Wright (SVX10 on the site)?

When does your next class session start? July like Mat's?

Mat has been down to my place a couple of times last year. I'd love to have a mini-meet at my house if you two would like to come down from Flint.

mmmmmm-grilled foods-mmmmmm

Todd

Yeah, I go to school with Mat. I am always up for a meet! Drivemusicnow is also starting at KU in July. The meet might not be so mini

I'll be back in Flint on 7/7. BBQ + SVX + Meet is a hard combo to pass up.

What was throwing me off the most was that a guy who can rebuild his own calipers (I couldn't do it), was all worried about doing changing a couple of head gaskets.

Good to know it all worked out. Even though I'm not sure you even own an SVX becouse I've never seen it.

I finished re-building them on the table in front of the hotel at Reading

Where do you think I keep getting all these parts to sell Jesse? I cannibalized mine
