But saying you did own 2 previously, should make you somewhat of a enthusiast. I started my Subaru ownership 15+yrs ago. I've owned close to 40 now. Before that I owned a 92 Mazda 2600i 4wd truck. It was a great vehicle and had 200K on it when I traded it. For a lifted 86 Subaru Hatchback |

Re: The SVX and you
Thank you Tom for your post... I have tried to tell people these things for ages. EVERY CAR NEEDS MAINTENANCE, EVERY CAR HAS ITS FLAWS, AND IF YOUR TOO STUPID TO REALIZE THAT THEN WELL PREPARE TO BUY MANY MORE CARS IN YOUR LIFE TIME. Expense on these cars are high yes. It is a car for some one who is a fabricator yes, but in all reality its about whether or not you like your damn car. This is why we love them... we build them to be unique. We build them because we do love them. Brand... psssshhhh get real.... there are so many f...ing brands of cars no one can truly be said better than another... Its hear say. You take care of you car it will last you. If it doesn't last then it is a manufacturing defect and you got unlucky or you race it. THIS RUINS ALL CARS. IT HAPPENS... EVERY MAKER HAS THEIR DEFECTS..... GET OVER IT. Back to the point... take care of your car, love your car and stfu, go ride a bicycle or buy a different car... It is a world of over populated retards...
Just my 2 cents. If its offensive... OH WELL...... I'm a .... Proud to be!!! Last edited by Brandon770; 05-27-2009 at 04:11 AM. |

Re: The SVX and you
It can also be said that parts scarcity and price shouldn't be a surprise. Subaru pumps out more Imprezas in a month than they did SVXi in their entire run, and what with the SVX being ~13 years gone, the mandated parts stock date is years expired, as well.

1: I wish Subaru still built coupes that were somewhat more current, and not beyond parts-stock. 2: I slightly hesitate to spent thousands on an SVX, rather than something a bit better supported with parts, like a Porsche 944 or something. Is the car going to need something eventually that will be nearly impossible to find... |

Re: The SVX and you
Tom's post is right on and that is why my advice is, and always has been, buy the best car you can afford. Old cars, old boats and old airplanes will cause you grief. It usually isn't a wise move to try to "save" a car. Most wind up in a junk yard when their new owners find that it costs much more than they ever imagined to repair. I've said it before but it is so true - THE BEST MONEY YOU WILL SPEND IS THE FIRST MONEY YOU SPEND. Buy a car that is ready to go from the first drive, then maintain it like it was your best friend. It will be.

Re: The SVX and you
Actually, I'm no longer in Texas. We moved to the Reno/Lake Tahoe area in March of last year. I forgot to update my profile, which has now been done. Love living out here among the mountains. Since being here about a year, I don't see many SVXs, a few here and there. It has always been a rare car and is becoming even more so as years go by. We are members of the National Auto Museum here in Reno and I am amazed by the cars displayed there. We have Nash, Edsel, Fraiser and other brands on display, cars of dubious quality and/or appeal during their production runs. Certainly a Subaru SVX is deserving of display.....maybe some day. Best wishes to all.

Re: The SVX and you
Well I expect you have a bonus on the scenic side in Lake Tahoe, no reflection on Texas.
The SVX is extremely rare here in Ireland, with the exception my wife keeps pointing out of round our house. There might be 5 or six in the whole of Ireland, but I have never met one on the road. Just because they were not a sales success in terms of numbers does not take from the balance of qualities the car possesses, nor does it make it less significant. Given time the SVX will be a genuine classic. Best of luck in your new location. Joe

Re: The SVX and you
KUDOS YT!!!
When I was looking for my baby girl I was warned of the things that fail, the cost of repair/maintenance, but I am anal when it comes to keeping up with things (have a huge spreadsheet for every check/change/and any other thing dated until 2012) I found a long time ago when my Dodge Shadow turbo caught fire that it pays to be on top of everything and be prepared for what is bound to happen (also pays to have great friends who can help along the way) Take care of your vehicle and it will take care of you
