Mr. Dynomatt,

By any chance did you adjust the DMS coil overs down to their lowest adjustment to see what the minimum ground clearance is?

I didn't I'm sorry, because it's of no interest to me.

However, the fronts are 83mm above the start of the threaded section, so potentially, you can lower the front by 83mm (3.3 inches) and the rear is up 45mm from the base of the spring platform, meaning it can go down bout 1.5 inches from there.

DMS will do short stroked versions for street cars. Ours, as ground clearance was a mandatory requirement, have been lengthened and it shows.

no, default is in the locked position, so you will either need to rig it so its always open or just extend the shift linkage like you really should... If you have the stock shifter, I can extend the pieces I have here and send them to you... but it will have to wait until I get my shop all settle in and I have a welder and electric for it. Which could take 3 weeks or so

oh and that is Huck's rear shifter mount if I remember correctly. I have used a couple methods of doing them but my 6mt silver has the stock rear mount with a custom bracket

G'day Tony,

As discussed, new exhaust went on today. Rallying is pretty hard on exhausts so they are virtually disposable.

I got a pretty basic system...twin to just behind the gearbox, where there's a y-pipe followed by an expansion chamber, then a resonater, and a muffler at the end. Just out one side, rather than both.

No idea what it sounds like...should have it running tomorrow all going well.

Tom, regarding the reverse lockout detent, it seems that the default position on mine is open...hence I can select reverse no problems with the shifter completely disconnected...the risk is the run from 5th to 6th and accidentally selecting reverse.

I was talking to a guy who adapted a 5 speed shifter assembly the other day. He modified it to have the reverse lockout function, and as the linkages are longer, I'm reckoning that might be an option for me.

Failing that, I can cut out more of the transmission tunnel, and just use the factory setup. I test fitted it tonight, and it doesn't seem too far away.

Matt

good luck... It is a long reach to get to the stock unit without extending it

Harvey I checked with DMS today and Matt & my struts are exactly the same Jamie just suggested that i run them set softer. Tried the car on dirt last night and it work brilliant it didn't look like bottoming out. The variable rate springs mean the vibration getting to the car on dirt as it did with the old struts. I think Matt will be happy.

Sounds good Tony, you are in the best "test zone area", if they work for you, they should work OK for Matt. The longer travel, and a progressive rate spring, should keep traction over the ripples.

Harvey.

So time is running out...

My first rally is on this Saturday (weather permitting) and I've got lots to do.

I spent the weekend on what seems like a whole lot of nothing...but I didn't stop, so I'm not sure what I ended up doing.

I know I did a bit of stuff that would make you guys cringe...like drilling two 15mm holes through a perfectly straight bonnet. Like drilling holes to mount the mudflaps to the rear.

It starts and runs perfectly now though. I was missing the starter signal to the ECU, and that was enough to completely confuse its starting sequence. Now she starts and idles smoothly each time.

On Friday I got the brake lines remade since the ABS has been removed. Also had the sump guard and gearbox mounts finalised.

Tom, I'll have to take some photos of the car with the new gearbox mount. He's taken a similar path to you guys for the rear part (ie adapted the standard SVX rear mount) but has used a standard WRX front two parts. He's then welded strong tags off the chassis rails to hang the standard WRX mount. Looks good.

I'm just waiting on a few more bits that are due to arrive today, and I should be taking it for a drive tonight. Also have the mandatory safety inspection tonight to see if it will pass...here's hoping.

Matt

Tom,

I test fitted the shifter (unmodified) last night. It sits about 1-2 inches too far away from me.

So I suspect I'll do what you've done.

Do you need to extend the cable like you did in the photo? Or can it stretch...and if it can stretch, how far will it stretch to avoid extending the cable?

Matt
