Doing some research on one of my favorite books I found the future production(2007) of one of the best novels ever written. I believe George Orwell "knew" what our future was holding in this story. It is a good read because much of the totalitarian ideas in the book ARE being practiced in the U.S. and the rest of the world(Secret prisons, "Big Brother" type surveillance, a false war, etc.)Here is a chilling quote from the book
WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
Sounds like a Bush strategy to me

I find those three lines to be true for 80 percent of the people in this world.

I read that book back in high school, then had to do a report on whether I felt it would come true in 1984. (Disclaimer - the author actually got the 1984 by switching the last two digits of the year he was writing it -> 1948)

I said no... and it didn't happen in 1984. It's happening now though.

The U.S. Government has hired a company to monitor the news coming out of Iraq. It's the same company they hired that was paying journalists off. I guess they ran out of things to "monitor" here.

I didnt intend it to be a anti-Bush thread just what our world is slowly coming to. The similarities in the book (circa 1948) and the technology of modern surveillance is scary-Big Brother(basically the Internet)Thought Police(Homeland Security)Ministry of Truth(Fox News

)Ministry of Peace(The Pentagon)Ministry of Love(Bush Adminstration)and so on. I think of this book more and more as a guide for our government on how to manipulate its "proles" especially with "doublespeak" and this I found on wikipedia makes it quite clear- "For instance, through constant "war", the Party can keep domestic peace; when freedom is brought about, the people are enslaved to it, and the ignorance of the people is the strength of the Party. If anybody becomes too smart, they are whisked away for fear of rebellion." I think about this more and more as my children grow up- I DONT WANT THIS FOR THEM!

I know Dan would also hate me for stating this but all of us should now read the comic and/or watch, dare I say, the movie V for Vendetta. If you have not already.

i used to lived in Orwell's fiction (and it was not fiction for my parents )
