Corvair questions
Went to the junkyard the other day and passed an old Corvair that has been yard art in a farmers field for about 30 years or so. It got me thinking that I seem to see a high proportion of Corvairs in such spots then any other type of car. It just strikes me as odd that people would've "hung" onto the things like they did when they took all the other cars they had to the junkyard since then. Did yards not accept them or something? Don't get me wrong. I'm a huge fan of the Corvair. Think it was the most innovative production car to come out of Detroit in the past 50 years.

Bob, don't you remember the CORN law of 1970? Sure - Congress made it a felony for any wrecking yard to accept a Corvair, as selling its parts would extend the lives of these death traps, & kill hundreds of thousands of innocents before tobacco had a chance.
Oh...CORN? Corvair Offends Ralph Nader. Ron (supporting better education through distortion of historical facts).

Sorry Ron, I wasn't alive just yet. Granted Nader did have most of the facts right on the early Corvairs but Chevy actually fixed the problems where Ford kept right on selling their black eye (the Pinto) with only minor tweaks to make it a little less likely that the car would ignite with a rear end hit.
I just think it is very odd. I can probably come up with 40 or so sitting in fields around central pa.

Yes, and naturally these fields were proclaimed to be CORN fields after the Nader proclamation. Ron (spreading a kernal of truth).

i had a corvair, the base model, and loved the car. went anywhere, economical and fun to drive. my friend had a corsa, 4 carb corsair convertable. a hell of a car. screw nader. i had a secretary who once worked for nader's brother. she told me both of them were screwed up having been disciplined as childen by being locked in the closet. i figure that s/o/b/ has been taking it out on the rest of us ever since.

My friend has a "Green Brier" the corvair van. It looks just like the VW bus but the motor faces the opposite direction. Totally useless but interesting.

I admit it, I'm weird. I actually did a book report on "Unsafe At Any Speed."
I still have a copy of the book. If you have trouble falling asleep, I suggest that you read it. Ah, here's my copy. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZ
