No John, that was for the install at the muffler shop. I paid $85 for the muffler, and picked out my own resonated tips from Autozone. Total cost was ~$250..

I would like to replace all the system, because resonator or what ever the hell that is has some metal inside so when you hit gas you hear ****y sound.
Question was. His kit is little over $ 390 bucks.
Can i get same parts from different place for cheaper price.
I heard you can get muffler for 80 bucks, cat about 80 and resonator for about 99.

I had an exhaust system made for my SVX using parts like what is suggested on Dayle's site. Got the muffler for about $85, tips from Dayle were about $100 and then took it to a local shop and had pipe bent and welded it all together for $200. So, all in all out the door on the road, I spent around just under $400. Keep in mind that I did not buy a resonator, I just had them place straight pipe in its place (and would not reccomend this unless you want to be heard!) Hope this helps. Next trip I take home, which won't be for another few weeks, I will make a few movie clips of what it sounds like for you all.

Hey guys. Your conversation has intrigued me to share some recent knowledge I gained . I got bad advice from a mieneke muffler shop when my exhaust started to get a little louder than I'd like (or my nieghbors). I was told I needed a new cat and he didn't have/get anything to fit, so off I go to the dealer an order a new cat, hardware and gaskets. I decided it would be best if a custom exhaust specialist I know loo at the job. After determining the original cat was not worth tossing (the inside was as clean as the new one with 159k miles on it) and the leak was from the two pipes that come into the center cat. I asked about a high performance monotube cat for more horsepower. His opinion was that the original cat was better because of the ability to handle a larger volume of air than the 2.5" monotube cat. Add the fact of having to fabricate the exhaust tubes to collect BEFORE the cat he thought that it would actually reduce horsepower. I tend to believe him because of his reputation of building 4" diam. custom systems for 1000HP+ racecars. So he made new pipes to go into the original cat, straight tube to a 14"l 4" diam. muffler (replaces the rattling resonator that was actually causing restriction) into the stock muffler (which by the way IS made of stainless steel) all for the cost $250. My opinion: leave the stock cats in if they work and focus on the cat back. By the way performance mufflers for late model Camaros and Firebirds fit well with little modification neccessary and they easy and cheap to get.

LABOR

I just got dayle's kit, went to my muffler guy (I know he's always been a little pricey, but good) to see what he wanted to install it: $375!

$375 THIS!

He said it would take about 3 to 3 1/2 hours "and he would do it RIGHT!" He said he used "aluminized tubing", as if others didn't! What can I say! Maybe he found out I am a dentist! [People think we're all rich! It's the money you have left over that makes you rich, not your income!!!!]

Everybody else here is talking about $200 to $400 exhaust systems TOTAL COST! My parts were $400 and it looks like I have to pay about $375 for labor >> A TOTAL COST OF $775!

you could have bought a Stebro *stainless steel* exhaust and put it in yourself. i had the old exhaust off and the Stebro on in about 20 minutes with my buddy helping.

Jim, welcome to just one more reality of life in Kah-lee-for-nyaa!!
I'd look for a few other estimates! There's gotta be another shop out there that does good work reasonably!

STEBRO ?

Alan: I thought the Stebro DID NOT just bolt on!? I thought there was a problem with the front section connection which prompted at least one of you to modify the front end of the pipe. [Someone who said they would be selling theirs soon!] Isn't it missing the cat or the resonator or something???

Anyway . . . . . . are you trying to cheer me up or WHAT!??

the hardest part is removing the old exhaust and gasket. after that, the Stebro literally bolts right up. throw it in the hangers, line up the parts, tighten the clamps...done. i don't know about Stebro's 'euro-resonator' which replaces the 3rd cat, but the rear and center section (resonator) were a simple install.

anyways, good luck with YOUR exhaust! maybe it will sound better than a Stebro???

Stebro Schmebro . . . . . .WHO CARES !

I don't know if I'll like this "kit", but I definitely DON'T like the situation I'm in with the install labor COST! How am I supposed to evaluate other independent shops to get a better price (instead of the $375 labor at "my" muffler shop)??? I won't know till it's done or some problem develops! In other words, how would I know that an independent shop is better than Midas for instance (which you said was a "no no")!!!???

Maybe I'm just grumpy, since I took my wife away this past Valentine's weekend to have her tell me that she's in love with someone we both know from our church! He's been nice to both of us (I found out why), so he'll be there to pick up the pieces (at least one piece), if our marriage deteriorates completely! How thoughtful! Life is full of surprises.

PLEASE HELP with the muffler shop analysis, THANKS!

P.S. Should I return the parts and get a Stebro?
