Restoration advice...
Okie, after a lot of consideration about costs vs. want involved, I've decided I'm not satisfied with my suby's flaws as they are and want to restore it as close to showroom as possible... this means the following:
1) Floor Carpeting - Badly damaged and stained. It must be replaced... what options are there out there? Anyone find an aftermarket source? I asked a dealership for costs of new carpet and was told over $700. That's absurd for a carpet. I've got the tan carpeting... but I could be somewhat flexible if presented with another color that would match the car scheme. Any help? 2) Interior Dash Panels - Horribly scratched. Are the motorsport kits a good alternative that look VERY natural and not an obvious cover up? Has anyone successfully painted their interior? Gloss black paint would work to some degree... 3) Leather seats - Stiching in the seats has torn. Alternatives that look 200% professional and fit with the tan color scheme? 4) Door sills - Completely missing. The tan plastic sills for the botton of the door sill have broken off due to horrible planning on Subaru's behalf and using plastic clips instead of screws. Should I replace or use something else like a generic billet kit? 5) Ceiling - minor headliner stains 6) Interior lighting for button words, etc - Many of my buttons in my SVX no longer light up anymore due to blown bulbs... how can I replace these? Anyone who can answer any of these will not only have my gratitude, but will help assist an SVX be brought back towards glory =) Thanks everyone, this board has been wonderful since I joined in '01, and even as I lose touch from time to time I always find myself coming back for more. As soon as my SVX funding is completed I promise here and now to donate as much as I can spare to the site. -=-Szalkerous-=-

The button clusters just pop out and there are little screws on top of them. The lighs just screw out and you replace it with another one - just screw it back in. If you need better directions, let me know.

The carpet... Is no longer avail through Subaru. You might need to replace your dirty carpet with someone else’s dirty carpet.
The interior.... Yes, you can get dash kits from Dayle at Motorsports if you fancy that kind of look. If you choose to paint the interior pieces remember what you’re dealing with... A lot of discontinued parts that might not be replaceable.. A lot of us have seen hideous pictures of painted interiors.. Seats... For those who have the tan leather seats there very few options. Replace it for a arm or a leg or get seat covers. Motorsports can custom order/ made you seat covers. The only problem is that tan doesn't go well with a lot of colors. Trust me I thought of every color scheme that would look semi decent in a tan interior SVX. Ideas? Door sills... Look on Ebay they usually run about $35 new. You can try using some two sided tape if you are missing all the clips. Headliner stains... Try this stuff it works quite well on a tan headliner! http://www.techstainremover.com/ The interior lights... Do a search for "dash lights". You can get replacement bulbs usually at any radio shack. Hope this helps! |
