What should I do??

So, I took my car in about two months ago to get the Right Rear wheel bearing replaced. I got the replacement wheel bearing from a junkyard SVX. Took it in and told them to replace the whole hub instead of the bearings. As far as I know, they replaced the whole assembly. But within the first 200 miles of getting my car back, the noise returned. Now my dilemma is this.

Do I go back and demand them to fix it or do I just buy a new hub assembly and take my business elsewhere if they don't right the wrong.

The catch is this, I gave them the whole assembly from the junked SVX and told them to fix it. If, when they pulled my hub apart and ascertained that the hub was in need of repair as well and didn't take the appropriate measures to ensure this problem would not happen again, did they do just that. Or did I get screwed over.

I know that the part I gave them was used, but honestly, what are the chances of a good hub, assuming that they had replaced the whole assembly, going bad after only 200 miles( the car i got it off of had 45k on the clock). The only way that I can see this happening is if they simply replaced the bearings only inside of a damaged hub.

I have driven on it thinking that the sound might go away and that whatever was making the sound was just something in my head.

Any suggestions??? All opinions are welcomed.

Keith

To a repair shop. The local Subaru dealership overcharges all labor except oil changes. Funny thing is that the sound came shortly after getting the replacement done, went away and returned with a vengance.

Only 2 logical explanations:

-They botched the job
-Bad parts

Two options:
-Barge in their, demand they unbotch the job.
-Barge in their, demand they inform you the part is bad, and get a new one, make them replace it again.

I think it will be difficult to get any satisfaction because you used parts that were used. If new ones were put in, it would be an easy decision on what to do.

Unfortunately, this is a learning situation. (Please don't take this the wrong way) You can't afford to do it twice, so do it right the first time.

Especially if someone else is doing the job and you are paying them to do it.

Thats the problem with anything from a wrecking yard. Thoes cars are in there for a reason. Gawd knows how thoes cars were treated in a past running life. NEVER think a wrecking yard part is as good as a new OEM part. This goes for engines, trannys and suspension components.
If the shop were to have replaced with all new parts, then you could ask to have fixed. However, being that you replaced with parts from a bone yard car, then they have no reason to fix it. That one wrecking yard part screwed you out of a warranty.
Sorry man..
On the plus side, when they replace the bearing this time, then you should have a warranty.

A couple of years ago I found a power steering pump for my Legacy in a salvage yard. Came with a warranty:

Twenty-four hours.

As it happened, it performed flawlessly and was certainly worth the twenty five or thirty bucks I paid, considering what a new one would have cost. But it's indeed true that buying used mechanical parts is a gamble, and one must in each instance weigh the monetary savings against the near-certainty that that part's lifetime will be abbreviated, as compared to new.
