Mob Mentality/Happy Halloween!

I just saw some crazy s*** go down. A ton of frat boys flipped over an old Toyota then a Nissan pathfinder and then attempted to flip over an explorer. After each one they tried to light the car's on fire. There were hundreds of people everywhere until the cops in riot gear came to quell the melee. It's quite a sight seeing cop's during the night with baton's in-hand and face masks marching down the road single-file ready to take people down. At first we thought people were just being idiots and setting off fireworks then we realized it was the cop's. They were throwing pepper-bomb's...the crowd dispersed quickly.
It's totally insane, under what circumstance is it ok to flip over and totally destroy someones car? Imagine waking up in the morning and having your car upside-down with 'no parking' sign's lodged in the window's. How violated the owner's must feel. A friend was trying to stop these guys and interestingly they had apperantly given some rational thought to their actions. "It's ok, their insurance will pay for it"...or; "it doesn't matter it's going to happen anyway." It seems like it would be more comforting if instead they had given no thought to their actions and were driven by a completely primal urge for destruction...but the fact that these guys had given some thought to their actions and proceeded to follow through is what's ultimately so disturbing. The other unfortunate thing is how drawn to all this I found myself. It was one of the most entertaining things I've ever seen and I feel guilty for being so captivated and mesmerized by it all.
To end on a relatively more humerous note...keep in mind that tonight was halloween (kindof). So everyone was dressed up for the occation...and as mentioned before, some people had issues with the indescriminate destruction of other people's property. So this one guy gets infront of the frat boy's trying to destroy the Explorer (their method was interesting, one guy posed as a battering ram with his feet and two other guy's grabbed his arm's and rammed him into the window's (feet first)). So anyway, the fellow in protest goes; "...this is someones ------- car, this isn't------- cool!!!" or something like that while standing between them and the car. So while this guy is trying to stop the crazed frat boy's from breaking the law and destroying someones property he's dressed up like the freakin' hamburglar! The irony was delicious.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Apperantly it went on for about 2 hours after I left. What do a bunch of rich white kids in Boulder, CO have to riot about? It's embaressing.
