Is Dexron II same as Dexron III

The manual calls for Dexron II ATF when draining the tranny fluid, is III the same as II?

Use the Dexron III. Same fluid with higher standards.

In the autoparts stores in Knoxville, TN, Dexron II is no longer available; Dexron III supercedes II.
Just read the back of the container.
