As far as I'm aware I belive it can cause damage to the center clutch... also I belive this has been discussed before... Other than that no, no better gas mileage also no traction benifits of the rear moving. My personal experience while I was waiting for my new tyre to come in after I mangled one shortly after getting new tyres.

The FWD mode is used to move the car if there are problems with the back unit. It is not supposed to be for driving any distance.

Driving with the FWD fuse in.
There is no advantage in driving with the FWD fuse inserted. It doesn't save gas, or rear bearings ect.
In fact it can cause the front differential to break. With the rear drive disabled, there is no way for the TCU to prevent the front wheels from spinning. This is normaly done by adding torque to the rear wheels, but with the fuse in the front wheels can spin, and the jaring can break the differential gears. Harvey.
