Cam Sensor

Looks like my '92 needs a cam sensor. Can anyone tell me if any other models use the same sensor? Of course if anyone has one for sale, I would be interested in that also. Thanks.

All model years use the same cam sensor. It's down next to the battery and is a piece of cake to replace... once you remove aforementioned battery.

See if you can get a salvage one. I just gave away a couple of salvage ones I had or I'd offer At $170 each it burns when you have to replace them with new... like I did... twice...

cam sensor

Hey, I have a spare cam sensor that I received in an assorted box of SVX parts that I bought awhile ago. All the parts supposidly came from a low miles SVX. I would be happy to sell it to you after I make sure it is a good one. It looks to be in very good shape, but does anyone know how to test a cam sensor?

All you can do is check the resistance. I don't have my shop manual here with me, or I'd tell you what the reading should be.

Actually, I was asking if any other Subaru models used the sensor.

I sure don't know how to check one, but if you figure out that it's good, I'll sure buy it from you! $170 new is ridiculous.

Cool CAM angle sensor

Sorry guys but the workshop manual does not give any information on what the reading should be for Cam sensor - if looks like a simple on/off switch to me? (error code 13) - it feeds straight into the ECU - see section 2-7 of workshop manual (page 25 of that section).

regards

Nope, it's "analog"... basically a cam sensor is a magnetic hall-effect sensor. Basically, if you hook up a meter you should be able to move a permanent magnet across the front of the sensor. So long as you're reasonably good at mathematics, the numbers should describe a rough parabolic curve roughly with your sweep across the front.

It's a magnetic sensor, basically.
