SVX parts restoration

If you live in the rust belt you may find this useful. I saw it on the powerblock this weekend. I've been looking for the name and how to of the process for a few years now. If you love your old cars like I do, rust is your sworn enemy and if you don't have access to a wire wheel or sand blaster this may be for you. I saw that also...the only part I saw actually. and all it was was arm and hammer baking soda or something like that...amazing.

Actually its washing soda not baking.

Washing soda is sodium carbonate. DO NOT TAKE INTERNALLY. It is also a skin and eye irritant. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate and is safe for human consumption. Washing soda can also be found in the pool department of Wal-Mart (or any pool supply outlet) under the name "pH Plus". 5 lbs. is $6-7.

Stuff like this makes me feel fortunate to have a couple of rust-free cars old cars. I lost a Subaru to New England road salt and recall well that sinking feeling of poking at a paint bubble and leaving a jagged hole.

While changing the master window switch on my silver car, which came from Colorado (with brief stints in several of the lower 48, including Massachusetts), I was pleased to find zero rust inside the door. The teal's a life-long sunbelt car. Hopefully the previous owner didn't take her into the the Florida surf...

I wouldn't think driving on a beach would hurt anything, but getting off into salt water surf sure wouldn't do it any good. That said, the real trouble probably comes from continual exposure to corrosive elements, opposed to an occasional splash.

If you drive on wet beach sand you may have a problem. Tires pick up the sand and deposit it underneath the car. It contains lots of salt. After having driven on a beach take your car to a local do-it-yourself car wash. Most of these near the beach include an under-car drive through area. This sprays high pressure fresh water under the car to wash away most deposited salty sand. I once lived in the U. S. Virgin Islands where cars would rust away before your very eyes. The cause - salty ocean spray carried in the breeze, deposited on your car by dew. Cars that were garaged suffered much less.

Here (Nova Scotia) you are never more than 60km (1.6 km to a mile )from the coast. Most of us live on the coast and the salt in the air is a killer. It has even caused major power outages. The salt deposits actually short out the power lines. Salt on the roads mixed with sand for traction is also a number one killer. If you're close to a salt breeze or drive on salty sand do as PDSides says. "Rust Check" or "Krown Rust Control" do a great job to counter act the corrosion and are the only products approved by CAA (AAA).

I have wondered if those electronic devices which connect an electrode to either end of the car really work. No washing soda.
