At the very least it's possible to buy a Subaru re-manufactured one. Others will know if a totally new one is available.

Is your car a righty or lefty? The downunder ones are lefty and the tranny is different.

There are two different gear boxs. The US one.has a different AWD section. The other box, used in other parts of the world, has a better AWD section. The way to tell is to look at the under hood fuse panel. If the AWD fuse is marked "diff lock", you have the better one. If the fuse is marked "FWD", you have the US type.
I think you will have the 'rest of the world' gearbox. I would try to source one from Europe, England or a Japanese ALCOYNE, All these have the 'rest of the world' Gear box.
If you are going to get your box overhauled, I would get done in England.
Harvey.

Not from a dealer. Maybe someone has one stored away somewhere.

well...then i have the best of them. When i put a fuse in there, the car spin on the rear weel.

My gearbox burnt it self one year ago, because one wery stupid (i dont know who) mecanic had used far to much silicone around the pan when the filter was changed at 100000km service. Just 2 month after i bought the car it starts to fail in warious ways. When i then checed the filter it was totally bloced. Lucy for me, i got two year warranty on the tranny. Problem is, after the first overhaul, it was not much better. Just a period. Soo then i wanted a new tranny, it was ok for the dealer where i bought the car, so a was happy in two weeks. Then i got the message, it cant be delivered anymore...WHAT....!

So the tranny was sent to special guys to be totally overhauled, think it costs a $2000 maybe more. So after a long wait it was finally finish. When i tested the car it was not good. Strange sounds when i turned, and cloncky sounds when it shifted. After ca. 130 km i heard a strange sound, like somthing was crushed. I recognised the sound three times, then it stoped shifting to fourth gear. I must say i was happy.....:/

Right now they try to get a new one. Just hope they get one...

The last I heard from my connections at the local Suby dealer was that Subaru does not make brand new tranny's for the SVX.

You can, however, buy a brand new engine.....for about $9,000 (inc. all accessories)
