Massive White smoke thru exhaust.
In below 30 type weather, when I start my 97 SVX, I get some massive white smoke from the exhaust for 1 second and then it goes away.
This happened last winter also. It doesnt starting happening until it gets cold. It only comes out this way in a huge poof of smoke and then the exhaust is clear. Any ideas why this happens > |

Yeah, you'd have to think coolant.
That said, not long after I got my first SVX it gave me a little trouble starting one cool day and once it did fire it belched enough white smoke to catch my attention in the rearview, and my heart sank. But it only did this that one time (that I noticed, anyway). Ultimately I replaced the coolant temp sensor to cure the hard starting; that was nearly 40,000 miles ago and I've never again seen smoke nor had any trouble with unexplained coolant loss or overheating. But I've always wondered what was up with that. dcb |

YT,
Condensation was my first thought until I got to the "huge cloud" part of the description. My guess is that he's collecting plenty of coolant in the cylinders once the engine is shut down (until the system pressure goes down). -Bill
