Clicking, Ticking noise...
hello fellas,
on my 92 svx ive been hearing this clicking, ticking noise that sounded like some bad fuel injectors but when i get close to listen were the sounds are comming it sounds like its comming from the center of the engine under the intake manifold....the noise is much louder from under the car and from the side of the car. my transmission is messed up, were it wont go into 3rd gear and planning on replacing it soon....ive driven the car even with the tranny prob for about a week just to get to a location and back. the car has been sitting for about a month now. the clicking noise seems to go away when i rev the engine a little, the clicking noise sounds like its synced with the rpms almost sounds like a diesel engine. when i was driving the car with the tranny problem not able to get passed 2nd gear i did have to rev the engine a little more but never overheated the engine or heated passed its normal driving temp. i replaced the water pump, timing belt, crank seal, cam seals and dummy plates on the cams about a year ago for the reason being that it was leaking coolant out the pump. any thoughts of what the problem could be. |

It could be your flexplate. When the tranny's out, it's a good time to inspect it. You can get them new from the dealer for about $25.

The flexplate bolts to the back of the crankshaft on the engine, the torque converter in the transmission bolts to the flexplate. They can sound like that, and since it attached to the crankshaft, it is always spinning independant of what gear you're in.
Since you are getting the trans out anyway, it makes that an easy thing to check. They are the same flexplate used in some newer soobs, so many dealers have them in stock.

after my last post i went outside to see if i can pin point the location this clicking noise is comming from, i turn on the car and the clicking noise is gone.....if the flexplate is cracked or broken will it always make the noise or sometimes?

it is possible for the flex plate to have broken in two and is now just wedged into place against itself. If it is a flex plate issue then the noise is bound to reappear some time, but it's hard to find the problem when it isn't displaying issues isn't it. This can be frustrating.
