im unfortunate enough to have to use the shift lock button EVERY time i want to change gears; brake on and everything
i believe someone said it was possibly a solenoid problem?

the newer ones have a screw you had to loosen/remove (i forget) first, once the cover is off.

Its not very common for the solenoid to go bad... More than likely the controller which is mounted next to the parking brake under the center console. Best way to test for sure is to test for power to the solenoid first... If there is power, the solenoid is bad... If there is no power, replace the controller.'

What are the benefits of the shift lock button again?

...So that next time I bring my left hand down to the shifter too, in attempt to put the car in gear, I can smile instead of shake my head since I'm in my other non-svx car.
