That's a pretty tall effort to try to convince people it's not a Subaru!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Did the front brake pads today, easy enough... but wouldn't have had to do it if the previous owner didn't use cheap pads and some really wrong grease for the sliders. 0 grease left in the ones with the bolt and one of them was starting to stick bad, causing the pads to drag on that side.

On the wheels, turns out they fit fine without spacers, I was just being weirded out by the different center section. Quick trip to the store was weird having 4 tires that were round, balanced, and had grip. Its now telling me to spend lots of money I don't have on suspension...

Right there with you, man. I blew about $6000 on repairs this year so far. Could have had Konis, glass hood, and a full exhaust setup by now.

The car however does feel supremely legit at this moment. Money well spent.

I got a comment from a woman yesterday whom said: "I've never seen that design of Subaru before", and upon being informed of its age she proceeded to admit that "they should have kept it".

I gave the car a little workout today. The LGT gears make better use of its balls and I totally recommend the swap for anyone with a 5mt.
Could use a little more torque though. Going uphill from first is a little more challenging.

Something else worth note: The Competition Clutch stage 2 kit feels very comfortable, but the F1 Racing stage 1 I had has way more bite. I've burned the clutch in 1st about 5 times already because I gave it a hair too much gas. It's not anywhere near as jerky as the F1, though. Worthwhile trade-off.

So are the LGT gears generally higher or lower than usual 5mt ones? What RPM are you at in 5th at, say, 70?

Also, I wonder how the STi clutches compare to the 5 MT ones. I have an OEM style or maybe stage 1 exedy clutch and it feels very grippy, but also pretty comfortable. I have burned it a few times though, and not on purpose.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

The pull type clutches of the WRX/STi are better than the push type in the 2005+ LGT 5spd.

I personaly found the gearing of the LGT kinda annoying in an actual LGT. 1st a little tall, 5th alot short. Not as annoying as the 4.44 Forester XT gearbox though.

The 07+ STi 6spd has my vote for best off the shelf gearbox, but it of course comes with a cost, weight and power penalty over a 5spd.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

LGT versus WRX, only 1-3 are taller, 4-5 are the same.
Personally I felt the WRX gearing is annoyingly short and doesn't take advantage of the wide torque band.
1st is a little tall, but I cruise around in parking lots so often in 1st its perfect once I get moving. I don't think ill be taking it to the drag strip though unless I start making 30 or so more lbs/ft.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

So today I replaced the lever on my SVX. The lever is the piece that connects the sway bar to the sway bar end link. My GFs brother and I did it in the driveway. We jacked up the front end took off the drivers side wheel and undid the 2 bolts that hold it on. The one that held it to the sway bar was real easy to get off, mainly cus it was covered in oil and not rusted. The endlink bolt was a little rougher, but some PB blaster, a wire brush, and some vise grips fixed that ... And then we just reassembled. It fixed the one of the problems I was having but I need to still change a few more things and then it will be good to go.

re did the stereo in the svx, took the 2 2 channel amps out and replaced it with a 4 channel amp, then replaced the 7x10's with some eclipse 6x9's and a 10 inch sub with built in amp. then sound deadened the parcel shelf and doors. here's the left one.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I know it's a little late, but I had wash N waxed my cars for Reading Friday afternoon. Then I didn't get to go. I also detailed the interiors and fixed my broken window switch (finally). Phone pics follow....

Next time I get a chance I need to detail both engine areas. Killer Tomato still needs some cosmetic engine attention after the whole Optima Battery issue.

Scrubbed the dirt off my exhaust tips, scrubbed my summer wheels and installed/aired them, found the clanky noise in the end links, finally finished the other half of the 15 minute mod, put on my engine aero panel.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Put the motor from my wrecked pearly into my blue car. Mostly, anyway. Just got home (6 AM here). Sleep for a couple hours and then to the lab to do more work...

The motor has like 70 something thousand miles on it, and has been spruced up some with a set of LAN's cams. Should be driving in less than a week.
