Replacing the postive battery terminal?

I am planning to do the alt wiring mod.
but i would also want to replace the positive terminal. The factory terminals are cheap and flimmsy and are old and do not tighten so i can pull my cable off by hand.
Could someone post pictures of there replaced postive post without the red cover on them.
too get some ideas of how to best replace them.
they are soldered on i think? with or without the alt mod thanks.
also a q: about the megafuse
recommend fuse with the 160alt is a 175amp megafuse?
what is the recommend mega fuse if i just use the factory alt? 100amp megafuse?

You can use either a 100-125A fuse on either alternator. I used a 175A fuse because it was available. i eventually went down to 125A.

Being slo-blo technology, that is more than enough. it is best to use the smallest rating possible without blowing the fuse. The SVX will not use more than 40-60A at any one time and will draw only what it needs. With a stock 95A alternator, you could possibly get by with a 100A fuse. The 160A high- output unit would not have to work as hard and would generate less heat than the stock one. Puts out 55% of maximum output (88A) at idle.

Our stock 95A alternator puts out about 35% of rated maximum at idle (that's about 40A). The output of your stock alternator is only 95A maximum. The 4 gauge cable is rated at 150A current-carrying capacity. You want a fuse that will blow before that capacity is reached, so a 100A-125A fuse will work.


If you don't want dimming lights at idle and a stock alternator that is constantly working as hard as it can, you WILL have to get the 160A high-output alternator.

The lower the fuse rating, the faster it will blow in a dead short, where the power wire goes directly to ground (such as an accident) See the magenta dots.

The same one I used. Just added the street wires power rings on each side and the small ground from the factory is in the middle.




Just replaced the mounting bolt with a hex head.

Thanks for that very informative explaination. My take of what you just explained is that the car accessories put out about less than 80 amps. so if you add a upgraded alternator that put out 80amps at idle your lights won't dim.
but if you have a stock that puts 40amps at idle and you have all your interior lights and stuff on the alt will struggle at idle to supply the fuse box and your light will dim.

Q: if you add a sub or a amplifier with the stock alt. this will make the problem even worse than it allready is?
and if you have upgraded alt will you need a bigger amp megafuse?
I think i will go with a 100 amp mega fuse to be on the safe side. dont want to smoke my wiring harnass.
