Every time I go to replace my SVX I don't.
Well pretty soon you guys will have to add a 400,000 mile section as its getting close. Every now and then I get P off at fixing bits on the SVX, then I comper it to the cost of keeping all the other cars in our company going and I decide the SVX is cheap.
Over the last 6 months I have looked to see if its time to move on, buy a new car, replace the SVX god for give I am even thnking about it. When I look around there is not car I want to buy to replace it at any price. My problem mybe a bit different but I drive it around the centre of Australia, all over our farms, tow other cars out of bog holes and it never misses a beat. Okay so I hear everyone going don't be stupid you can buy a Toyota Landcruiser for the job. No I can't the centre of gravity is to high and out here people roll them all the time and when you do roll them you get killed, not just hurt, killed dead. I also want to get from A to B a bit faster I am impatient bastard and have a lot of ground to cover before I die, I don't want to watch the grass grow on the side of the road. So then what about smaller fourwheel drives, they don't make one as tough as the SVX, just look around the centre of Australia and see how many sports cars are out there (Zero) are four wheel drive or as tough as mine. The next problem when I do long run of 1,500k on dirt and I get out of the car I don't feel like I just competed in a trialation, did 10 rounds in the ring. The SVX handles like a dream you are not fighting it every second of your life. So will it get replaced, well one day maybe but it wont be in the near future I still got that 500,000 to break and a lot more desert dunes to climb. Have a great day all. Tony

Re: Every time I go to replace my SVX I don't.
Great post Tony! Seems you have the opportunity to exploit the true nature of your "beast" in ways most of us can only imagine! I admire your efforts over the years to give us another "side" to SVX ownership, and look forward to more of your fascinating "SVXploits".
Glenn

You are right about it being cheap to maintain. Once you have everything figured out (and no auto box to worry about biting it for no reason) and a small stockpile of parts, it gets pretty cheap.

I would not call what you have a small stockpile.
The corner in my room is a small stockpile. You and Nate are ready for World War III.

I will probably get rid of the SVX when the total repair costs exceed my mileage driven.
It's not outside the realm of possibility!

Re: Every time I go to replace my SVX I don't.
Approaching 100,000 miles total time behind the wheel of an SVX, I recently totalled-up what I've spent on mine over the years: sales prices, parts, tires, everything but gas and insurance, and the grand total divided by the months driven still doesn't equal a typical new car payment.
Still, the to-do lists seem to grow longer even as my paycheck's buying power diminishes, they really need some TLC, and the potential for a massive repair bill looms larger every day. I'm stuck in Indecision Land. dcb |

Re: Every time I go to replace my SVX I don't.
Sadly,I may be selling the 'red sled' this coming Tuesday. The thought of a diminishing parts supply and the cost of some aftermarket parts doesn't,to me, sound like the idea of a good time. That and I need something more utilitarian.Maybe a forester or leggy wagon. If the car sells I will direct the new owner to hook up with you guy's.Your experience has helped me many, many times. This car has been fun to drive though.

Re: Every time I go to replace my SVX I don't.
Tony you are an inspiration, keep that SVX going. As for me, I'll be keeping mine as long as I can still get it repaired.
