FAIL: attempt to change spark plugs!
the first one on the drivers side came out easy because i had it off once b4.
so i tryed the second one and the rubber boot didnt come out with the coil. I ended up trying to pull it out with a pair of pliers, and ripped the boot in two. i gave up, and put it back together hopfully spark plug wont short out to the body. I'll pay the professionals to do this job. i put dieletic grease on the spark plug body and left the coil portion of the boot dry. let I'm know to do this with all of them. How much money does a spark plug job cost? i know that 13$ for each of the boots X6. |

Re: FAIL: attempt to change spark plugs!
All depends how much the shop doesn't want to do it. The more they hate the thought of the job, the higher the price. In all reality though, rate time for the plugs is 2.3 hours.

success: attempt to change spark plugs!
productive day my friend and I, i got my parts from subaruparts.com
we put in some oem wiper blades for the driver and pasenger side and a rear one. Then put in my broken cigerette trim piece in p.i.t.a to put in the screws are up under the dash panel. I ordered a bunch of trim clips and put them in there locations like the trunk, engine ect.. We got all the spark plugs out without destroying the boots; and i put in some bosch platium IR fusions. my friend had tools that made the job alot more easier. like a mirror for pulling the boots out it nice to see what you are doing and not poking at air and some long angled pilars i replaced the boot that i ripped i was luck i order a extra one ya! but we broke some clips that hold the coil wires to the engine block Last edited by kjoyes; 05-24-2012 at 03:24 AM. |

Re: sucess: attempt to change spark plugs!
ya, i didn't on plan on doing my spark plugs after my failed attempt. I was really discouraged, I was ready to drive it to a subaru dearship to have them done. But by fate, my friend came over. He said, are we going to do your spark plugs, not expecting him to say that. i said ok, thinking in the back of my head, ya right good luck.
i have not started it yet, because my battery is out of my car in the basement, testing a amp down in basement. I was waiting for the ciggeratte trim picse, before i could put in my pioneer, double din head unit. Today ill put that in. it is really satisfying to do some thing yourself, knowing the job is done right. because there are some shaddy mechanics out there. I bad experence with the last subaru dealership i went too. the best part I also have the same amont of ben franklin's that i would of spent on parts and labor.
