Are SVX rear axles unique in the Subie world?
All,
Question for those with in-depth knowledge of Subie axles. Are our rear axles interchangeable with those of other Subies? I know other Subies use the R160 rear diff, but something tells me the SVX's rear axles are somehow "special". Thanks in advance for everyone's help on this. Bill

They're 100% unique thanks to the unique viscous LSD carrier in the diff. Hybrid axles are easy enough to make. The outer part of the axle is the same as 05+ STI i believe.

So, what if we went to a Cusco mechanical LSD that was designed to work with the the R160? Would, say WRX axles work? Don't all STis use the R180 rear diff? Thanks Bill

Yes, all STI's in the US use an R180, but the hub is the same as the SVX. So again, a hybrid axle, or if you're using an R180, Sti Axles will then bolt in. The STI and SVX use the same size bearing. No other Subaru does. |

Re: Are SVX rear axles unique in the Subie world?
Some of the after market diffs have double grooves for the circlips to facilitate different inner CVs.
For example the Quaife Torsen I have is one and the only thing I had to do was to cut off the small splined end which goes into the viscous SVX unit. There's a picture of this somewhere on the forum. Tapani |

Tapani, This thread? http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...=Quaife+Torsen Nate, Think you could tackle this? Bill
