Quick 4.44 Swap Question

So I know that usually when doing this swap you would put the LSD carrier from the svx into the housing of your donor rear diff, but there are some 4.44 rear diffs from subaru.

So Im currently looking at a 4.44 limited slip rear diff from a 02-05 JDM WRX STi and one from a 2000 Outback with the all-weather package.

Will either of these work for the SVX swap? If so, should I be concerned about getting a rear diff that can better handle the amount of toque the svx puts out?

Pretty sure you have to use your SVX LSD for the axles to fit.

Just read this old thread

It *sounds like* since the JDM STi rear diff I'm looking at is an R160,(4.44 LSD) and all that, and the USDM SVX rear diff is also R160, it should work?

Still not sure...

Re: Quick 4.44 Swap Question

No, the SVX LSD requires unique axles, no other Subaru uses the same axle that I know if....you "Might" be able to use the other diff, IF you also use the axles that were in it....

Re: Quick 4.44 Swap Question

does the JDM STi with 4.44 gears and R160 also have 5 x 114.3 hubs? if so those axles should fit?

Re: Quick 4.44 Swap Question

I got a 3.7 vlsd out of a 06 wrx with a manual when I did my JDM driveline swap. I was hoping the same as you since it was a vlsd. Unfortunately it proved otherwise. I had to swap the SVX vlsd into the wrx differential to install it into my SVX. It turned out that the SVX vlsd is much better anyway. When you have them out side by side you can easily see it has many many more plates.
