Smile Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I own a 1992 white L rust free body would give someone to haul away. Hood and one door need minor repair but rest in very good shape. Problem for most is that I live in Norther New Mexico.

Also, own a wrecked 1992 LS with all good, essentially brand new, mechanical parts including the engine. ONLY HAS 2792 miles on it.

Lee, you're finally thinking of offloading the longtime side project & parts car? You've had them as long as I can remember!

I can always use one more...

Yep have had a long time. Will probably put the engine out of the wrecked one in the Silver. Of course think I might have said that years ago too

Next I would like to paint the wheel arches, but first I have to repair my sister's R2. The engine replacement was originally scheduled for next spring.

The damage to the R2 engine has gotten pretty bad so I need to hurry up with this job. My sister is renting a car while it's being repaired and there will be costs involved so we need to get it done quickly.

Today I cleaned the engine compartment and CVT and separated the engine and CVT. Tomorrow I am planning combine the new engine with the transmission and put it back in the car.
Yesterday I put the new engine and transmission back in the engine bay.
It will probably take another day to put the exhaust, drive shaft and suspension parts back together.

The used newer engine is in good condition with 8000 miles on it. It's quiet and powerful and the car feels refreshed. I plan to test it out for a few days and then give it back to my sister over the weekend.

Next week I'll be back working on my wife's car.

Yesterday a friend asked me to refresh the suspension on his DIT Legacy. It looks like I'll be busy still for a while.

Looking good!

Yesterday I installed a replacement rear seat upper in my 1992 SVX.

This weekend, I hope to work on the steering rack installation, transmission fluid change, and reinstall the exhaust.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Yesterday, I returned the R2 to my sister.

Today, a friend of mine is asking for advice about the radiator fan on his SVX.

New genuine radiator fans have been discontinued, and second-hand ones are no longer available.

The fan is bent and melted near the center due to heat, the bearings are gone, the magnets have come off the case, and the brushes are gone. I need to fix this somehow.

This weekend, I helped a friend shop for their first Subaru. They bought a 2006 2.5i Limited. It needs a few minor mechanical things but looks like a very good car, overall.

This weekend, I dug into the 1992 SVX. I replaced the transmission pan gasket and filter, completed installation of the rebuilt steering rack and left ball joint.

Next up are engine and differential mounts.

Aren't the SVX ball joints great. They've got to be the easiest I've ever changed.

Thanks for the offer of help. I have also found some fans on eBay, but they are all 5-blade AC condenser fans. Main fan should have 4-blade and 3 speed control motor.

Yesterday I heated the center metal of the blade with a heat gun to correct the angle, then sprayed it with cooling spray to harden it, and I think I've fixed this.

Next I am working on rebuilting the motor. At a minimum the brushes need to be replaced. First I replaced the bearings. The bearings are standard 608ZZ.

If I need a condenser fan from eBay to get parts, I might ask for your help. I'd appreciate your help. I'll try to do it myself a little more.

I've heard that the ball joints on the lower arms are compatible with Nissan. Luckily, they're still available. I have two in stock, but they're not that expensive, so it's a good idea to get a several while you can.

On the other hand whole lower arm are not available. It one of big problem.

Today I am carrying out the engine oil change, which we had been unable to do because R1 and R2 were occupying the lift.
