I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

My brother told me the news over the phone while I was on the way to the office today. I'm working all weekend voluntarily. Don't ask why, because I don't really know.

Anyway, I'm really glad we caught him - mostly because I hate to see bad guys get away with something. But I don't think that this is going to 'break' the resistance against us in Iraq. I think it'll stay pretty much the same - and quite possibly get worse for a little while. Every indication I've gotten from people inside Iraq is that most of this resistance is coming from other countries who don't want us there, not necessarily Iraqis themselves. Now, maybe Saddam had a part in organizing them, but I doubt it. I think he's been too isolated to manage crap.

Still, I am glad we got him.

What do we do now that we got him? Also, how is he a bad guy? He is the ruler of his nation and who are we to decide on how to rule a nation? Where are the chemical weapons? My reasoning behind is look at Russia. When the communist rule the nation, Russia was poor but was generally ruled by someone. Now, it's ruled by a bunch of Russian Mafia and thugs.

With that said and attracting enough flames for another couple of months, I do have to add that now that we have one down, we should seriously go after Osama and N. Korea. Those two have/had been major threads to the national security and way of life we are used to. I fully agree with getting rid of Osama and the N. Korean government.

I'm not going to flame you, Lwin, but I am curious about why you contradicted yourself. First you defend Iraq's sovreignity and say that we shouldn't be overthrowing foreign governments, but then you go on to say that North Korea's government is a threat and that we should do something about it.

I have been a little surprised by the fact that we've found no WMDs in Iraq. But I've also been wondering why, if there aren't any, did Saddam act like there were. It sounds like he was caught in a difficult spot - pretend he has them and we're going to go after him. Tell the world he got rid of them and look weak to other Arab nations. It also sounds like he was ill-advised by the French and Russians.

Anyway, I don't disagree with you about North Korea. That's a frightening situation.

IMO, N. Korea would be a lot more harmful than Iraq. We should have known that Saddam was bluffing. My decision is split in these two cases. North Korea is a definate thread. We all know that. We have proof that they have nukes and they are nuts. In the case of Iraq, I think we already know he is nuts but we don't really have solid proof. I think Iraq is the lesser of two evils and Bush decided to end the war that his Daddy started because he knows he can't win in N. Korea. Also we still can't get a hold of Osama.

IMO What should have happened in the case of Iraq is to go in and get out within 7 days and go after Osama and N. Korea. We should have just gone in to verify that there are no chemical weapons and get out. I think we lost too many lives over a bluff and honestly because of that Suddam won that fight. Its like a game of poker. You have to know when the bluff is and call it before the pot gets too large.

He killed thousands of his own people and used chemical weapons on his neighbors - what other proof do you need that he was 'nuts?'

As for your plan of going into Iraq and leaving in 7 days, that would have been nothing short of a disaster. It would have left a power vacuum for anybody, possibly worse, to fill. If you think the rest of the world was mad when we invaded Iraq, imagine how angry they'd be (and I would be) if we tore up the place and then left them to rot? You know, like we did last time.

I agree - North Korea is a scary friggin' situation. But they've got a gun (thousands of them) to South Korea's head. If we don't handle North Korea diplomatically, thousands upon thousands of South Koreans will die. We have to let that country fail from the inside.

Don't get me wrong, Lwin. I'm not mad over this - I'm not trying to come off like that. I just think you're not seeing the whole picture before you declare your policies.

It's ok. We are having a civil discussion and I enjoy it. I had something to say a second ago but my train of thought just died. I'll post when it is back.
