How much transmission fluid????
How much trasmission fluid is needed when you drain the trans fluid. I have a B & M transmission filter and transmission cooler. So how much more fluid do I need when you have a transmission cooler and trans filter. I have heard that you check the transmssion level when the engine is warmed up and running as well. Anyway, just want to know your thoughts on this subject. Thanks.

Having a filter and cooler makes no difference for just a simple drain the AT pan thing.
Why? Because the lines from the transmission to the cooler/filter rise up at the firewall before going back down to the level of the pan (at the cooler/filter). So unless there's some kind of wierd siphon thing going on in your car - no effect. Generally you should expect to see between 6 and 7 quarts drain out from just pulling the plug and drinking your beverage of choice until it stops dripping. At least that's what comes out of mine. |

I think he is asking, once he installs the tranny cooler and remote filter, around how much extra tranny fluid should be used to keep things equal in the tranny. Not how much should drain out.
Once the tranny is warmed up and running you can check the level and add accordingly. If you have empted the tranny fuild to install the cooler and filter, I would say once you have everything back together check the level, make sure you it's close to the minamum level on the dip stick, then start the engine and let things warm up and add accordingly.

That what I meant, how many quarts do I need to fill it back up to the proper level once I drained out the old trans fluid? Thanks for all your tips. |

awdsvx, if you continue to read my post, it tells you how to get your tranny to the proper level...
Since most of your tranny fuild is out, you should consider flushing the tranny completely and using synthetic tranny fuild... Doa search on how to do this or post another question maybe. I plan on doing this for my wifes car soon.
