Indy

<I just spoke with Andy Thimlar of Speedway Subaru/VW/Mazda (317)263-0002 (located about 2 miles from the track) about the possibility of photos/laps of the track. He tells me that the Miata Club had 300 members ON the track for a photo shoot about 8 years ago and he will get me the club presidents name and phone number for suggestions as to how we can go about this as well. They also have a new $3,000,000 dealership which can accomodate a number of us for a GTG or photo op if we'd like. >

Todd (and others), I lifted this from the upcoming meets page. Jean and I are leaving tomorrow morning for Indy, and I can call or visit Mr. Thimlar while I am there.

What specifically do you want me to ask, that you haven't already discussed with him? Since I will kinda be representing the WHOLE MEET, I just want to do this right. Jean says I have to wear a clean shirt and use my store-bought smelly-water too!

As Number 5 would say...."INPUT" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don

I will delete this thread after receiving the above mentioned input...

Don, tell him if he can find a way to rescue that SVX pace car & ship it to the track, we'll allow him to take a picture of 100+ SVXes on the track & display a panoramic blow-up in his 3 million dollar showroom. And.... we'll all promise not to talk about SVX trannies in his presence. We'll really TRY!!
Ron.

The original SVX pace car exists, but is locked away in a warehouse somewhere in New Jersey (I think). Rumor has it that LarryIII has the key to the warehouse, but is asking enough in ransom to cover the purchase of that "new" red SVX in Aurora, Colorado.
Ron.

Don,

Andy gave me the name of the Indy Miata club VP who told me he'd do some digging and call me back. I spoke with him last week, but have not heard back from him. I did not want to be a pest yet

Have a good time in Indy and see what the dealership thinks about a GTG at their site. Andy was willing to be a stop and sponsor of a Indy area rally and give away a Subaru related prize which I thought was very cool.

Have a safe trip...and maybe avoid the INPUT thing when you meet Andy

Todd

That 's no rumor, its true. Its in a Subaru storage facility in N.J. A good friend of mine took me for a ride in it 6 months ago. Pretty neat ride. Very loud. I'm working on getting it to the 10 year ann. meet this summer. Its gonna cost some money to get it shipped out there though. I'll keep you all posted.
I would find it awful hard to believe that SOA wouldn't pick up the tab to ship it to Lafayette. (Well, maybe not that hard.) If they won't, someone get a 'loaner' SVX license plate and drive it!
